2/14/23 Day of Service and Love
On Tuesday, February 14, 2023, Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) and communities across Broward County will host A Day of Service and Love in commemoration of the 17 loved ones tragically taken and those injured as a result of the tragedy at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School on February 14, 2018.
A Day of Service and Love is an early release day that has been designated as a ‘service- learning’ day, for students, staff, and volunteers to come together to support each other through a variety of community service activities at schools across the county.
Student service-learning projects will focus on the goal of serving with relationships, grace and respect to emphasize positive and rewarding relationships, while raising awareness about important and meaningful causes.
In addition, on February 14 at 10:17 a.m., BCPS will observe a moment of reflection in honor of the 17 Fallen Eagles.
Students/staff may wear red/pink/purple tops with appropriate bottoms. (Short shorts or dresses and pants with rips/tears are not permitted; with appropriate shoes, as always.)
Also, MYP students may bring their lunchbox and/or a small string bag. As this is a non-academic day, MYP students DO NOT NEED BACKPACKS. If they arrive to campus with a bookbag, bags will be housed in the office and returned at dismissal.

International Baccalaureate Corner: February's Learner Profile Attribute - Reflective
The IB Learner profile aims to develop learners who are reflective. Those who are reflective give thoughtful consideration to their own learning and experiences. They are able to assess and understand their strengths and limitations in order to support their learning and personal development.
IB students and educators have developed an ability to reflect on their learning and to articulate how they learned. They have learned that critical reflection is an important academic and life skill.

Reflection is a key component of IB learning. The learning process is not finished without reflecting on what has been learned! Franklin Academy students even write a reflection when they report their service as action.
When we are REFLECTIVE, we know what we are good at and what we’re not. They try to think about these things, and they make changes where they can. They give thoughtful consideration to their own learning and consider their personal strengths and weaknesses in a constructive manner.
