Dear Glacier Peak Families,

December is here already - we cannot believe it! hope everyone enjoyed their time off for the Thanksgiving holiday. We have less than three weeks left this semester. It was nice to have last week off to recharge and have the opportunity to spend valuable time with family and friends.

It really is hard to believe that we are just about at the halfway mark for the school year. The middle of the school year means that first-semester report cards are on their way. Report cards will be available for parents to view on January 9th, starting at 4:00 through Infinite Campus. Additional reminders will be sent home closer to the date. Also, with the middle of the school year upon us assessment day is just around the corner. Look for the sign up links for 90 minute time block of testing for your student to come home before we leave to break. Assessment day is Friday, January 13th.

On the topic of safety, traffic concerns have come to my attention. We are working with our students on crosswalk safety. Please review the safety tips included in the updates below to ensure we can keep our students safe from vehicle accidents.

Here are a few other tips to consider:

  • It is very important to pull all the way forward in both of the drop off lanes-the loop at the primary wing and the parking lot loop. Stopping early in the line causes major backups on Jasmine. This is dangerous, causing folks to make poor decisions because traffic is blocking the intersection. Pedestrians are at risk because there is not a full view for drivers.
  • Time is important to all of us, but please slow down and be present when on Glacier Peak's campus and in the school zone.

Thank you in advance for your commitment to getting students to and from school in a safe manner.

Next week on December 6th, our fabulous Grizzly Choir will be having their first choir concert at 6:30 p.m. here at Glacier Peak. If you are a choir parent, you know how much time and effort goes into all of their practices. We are ALWAYS excited to show their angelic voices off to the community. We have limited seating for our large choir, so, we reserved it for the families who have children participating. Please note that we will be streaming the event as well.

With the time of year and cold weather, we know there are lots of appointments, special events, and other activities that may interfere with the school day. Please remember that any day school is in session, is a required attendance day, including the day before or after an extended break. Attendance is vital to your child achieving and learning. We do understand that there are appointments and other events that cannot be scheduled outside the school day, but we ask that you make your best attempt.

Lastly, on behalf of the entire staff of Glacier Peak Elementary, I wish your family a safe, enjoyable, and restful Winter Break. For those that celebrate the various Winter Holidays, we hope that they are joyful and allow you opportunities to celebrate with your family and other loved ones! We look forward to welcoming our students back on Tuesday, January 4th.

Thanks so much for your continuous support. Any comments, questions, feedback, or compliments, don’t hesitate to give me a call or send me an email at: tim.griffin@adams12.org.

Respectfully,

Tim Griffin, Principal

More about Adams 12 Choice

Entrance into high school programs with specialized admissions criteria like Horizon SOAR, Legacy 2000, Mountain Range High School of BusinessTM, Northglenn High STEM and EC@N-STEM Programs and Thornton High International Baccalaureate (IB) are managed directly by each school. In-district and out-of-district students wishing to attend high school programs with specialized admissions criteria must apply directly with the school’s program and do not need to apply with the Choice Program. More information about this process can be found on school websites.

Students who receive approval of their Choice application and attend schools outside their assigned attendance area are responsible for their own transportation to and from the school. Families eligible for homeless assistance services should consult with the Student and Family Outreach Program before choosing to participate in the Choice program by calling 720-972-6015.

COOLER WEATHER AND RECESS

As November has reminded us, the weather is starting to become much cooler, especially in the morning. All students continue to go outside for recess as long as the temperature (including wind chill) is at 20 degrees or above. Please ensure your child is dressed appropriately for the weather. All students attend outside recess unless there is a doctor’s note specifically stating that they cannot for a medical reason.
