DHES News and Notes
December 9, 2022
Educating every child for confidence today and contribution tomorrow.
A Message From the Principal
DHES Families,
What a busy week at DHES. The students are working hard in class and around the school. Please encourage your students to keep up the good work, stay focused, and finish December
strong. A good ending to the calendar year will make for a great start to 2023! Thanks!
Report cards will be coming home next Friday. Be on the lookout for them and then find ways to celebrate the many successes with your children.
As December comes to a close we will experience an increase in the number of items in the lost and found. Please be sure to write your student’s name on all coats, sweatshirts, lunch boxes, water bottles and the like so we can get the items back to them if it is misplaced. Also, please check the lost and found as soon as possible, as we will be donating leftover items to a local charity during winter break.
Have a great weekend!
Kevin Anderson, Principal

A Message from our Counselor
Please Help Dieringer Families in Need !
The holidays can be a challenging time for families who are experiencing hardships. Each year, the Dieringer School District counselors work with Dieringer families in need to offer holiday help. If you, your extended family, or your community group is interested in helping a Dieringer School District family in need, the counselors in each of the buildings are accepting gift card donations. Please contact your building counselor, Mary Boben, mboben@dieringer.wednet.edu or drop off a gift card labeled “Holiday Help,” at the Dieringer Heights main office.
Specifically, we are in need of the following gift cards in a variety of denominations:
Walmart
Target
Fred Meyer
Amazon
With appreciation & gratitude,
Mary Boben, DHES Counselor
From the Nurse
Dieringer families,
Respiratory illnesses have been increasing these past few weeks. Flu activity is high in Pierce County and Washington State, as well as Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV). Additionally, Covid is still with us. Covid testing is recommended for symptoms of illness. Please let your child’s school know if your child tests positive for Covid.
Flu and Covid-19 vaccines are recommended for all individuals aged 6 months and above. Local urgent care centers and hospital emergency rooms are over capacity and vaccines are one of the primary tools we have to prevent illness and maintain our hospitals’ ability to deliver care.
Here is information for parents about Flu from the Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department, including where to get free children’s flu shots and immunizations: https://www.tpchd.org/healthy-people/flu/flu-and-children
Take these steps to reduce your chance of getting sick or infecting others:
Stay home if you’re sick.
Cover your coughs and sneezes with a tissue or your elbow.
Wash your hands often.
Consider wearing a mask around those most at risk.
Terry Woodall, BSN, RN
District Nurse
