This week we will continue to practice what we have learned in lessons 34-37 of Signs for Sounds. When a one-syllable word has a short vowel and ends in one consonant (hop), the final consonant is doubled when adding a suffix that begins with a vowel (hopping). When a word has the long vowel/silent e pattern (hope), the final e is dropped when adding a suffix that begins with a vowel (hoping). We will be practicing when to double a final consonant and when to drop the silent e.
This week in language arts we will continue reading tall tales and biographies. In writing, we are revising and editing "I Am" poems.
We will have MAP testing for math Wednesday morning at 8:00 a.m. There is no math homework tonight. We will continue in Chapter 11 of My Math on measurement. There will not be a fact test this week. Fact tests will resume next week. Please continue to help your child study for these tests.
Wednesday is South Carolina Day, and we will be discussing some of the symbols and history of the state of South Carolina. We will also continue reading picture books on slavery, as well as discussing Ellis Island and how immigrants came into the United States.
