Free field trips to Rhode Island State House for Rhode Island public schools
Every Thursday in October, Rhode Island public school teachers can book free field trips (transportation included!) to the Rhode Island State House for programming provided by the Carter Roger Williams Initiative, Rhode Island State Archives, Roger Williams National Memorial and the Tomaquag Museum. Foundations of Early Rhode Island History will focus on 17th century Rhode Island with special attention to different perspectives on Rhode Island’s founding. Students will hear from local experts on the First Peoples of Rhode Island and Roger Williams, and will examine primary sources from the Rhode Island State Archives. Field trip curriculum is adaptable by age, for grades K-12. Reservations are first-come, first-served for 2-hour morning and afternoon time slots. Complete and submit the application to reserve your spot today.

If any one is interested in participating in some voluntary after school professional development presented by the Sargent Center please let us know. We are working with the high school to create a team of teachers (10 spots available) to be part of this initiative to enhance the culture in our buildings. This is a great opportunity if your Professional Growth Goal is related to this topic.
Reminder:
If you have not scheduled your Annual Conference or Beginning of the Year conference please do so as soon as possible.
ADVISORY ACTIVITY
Jianna Reyes, one of our 8th graders volunteers with the Rhode Island Association of Fire Chiefs Honor Flight Program.
She has reached out to see if there are any advisories that would be interested in writing letters to Veterans for Veteran's Day. There are 23 Veterans on the list from all branches of the military. If you are interested please let us know and we will provide you with some names for students to write their letters to.
TECHNOLOGY SPOTLIGHT
In grade 6 History, students have been using Google Drawing to create Identity Charts.
To share their charts for classmates to view they posted screen shots of their Identity charts on Padlet.
Check out the links to see these tools in action:
Thank you Carolyn and Kerri for sharing!
If you are doing something great in your classroom that you would like to share please do so we can feature it.
Another Tech Tip:
Use http://safeyoutube.net when you want students to view a video from youtube. Copy the link from Youtube and put it in http://safeyoutube.net, this creates a new link so that students are only able to watch the assigned video. This link helps with other distraction on Youtube and keeps the focus on the assigned task.
