SOL Testing

The Virginia Department of Education is providing another testing option for students who receive all instruction virtually and whose parents would prefer they don’t come to the building.

Virtual students can be administered the Virginia Remote Student Progress Table Test. The assessment is not an SOL, but includes items measuring the Standards of Learning. The results are not part of any SOL results, rather they can be used to show areas where students may need additional instruction. This remote test is only available for Reading and Math (grades 3-8) and Science (grades 5 and 8). It excludes Algebra and Geometry.

If you have a virtual student in 8th grade, and you have already made a decision about testing and would like to change it, or if you have not made a decision for your 8th grader who is virtual, but would like them to participate in remote testing please email jengel@k12albemarle.org.

Families of 6th and 7th grade students will make testing choices and be provided more

specifics in April. Direct communication about testing will begin after Spring Break. You can make your choices then.

Golden Apple Award

Nominations for the Golden Apple Award are open! Click on the Golden Apple Award link for more information and to nominate a teacher. Applications are due no later than Friday, April 30.

Parent Council Update

During the March 17 Parent Council (PC) meeting, Ms. Jennifer Sublette, Director of Professional Learning, sought feedback and ideas from the PC Reps regarding the FREE ACPS summer programming that will be open to all ACPS students.

Dr. McLaughlin reviewed the current COVID-19 conditions in the county and also explained changes to CDC guidance to schools and how that may impact ACPS. Dr. Haas spoke briefly about the new School Security Officer positions that will begin next year and then answered a few reps’ school based questions. Finally, the Families Helping Families Fund representative presented an update.

The reps were asked to discuss the linked documents with their PTOs and/or school communities ASAP: A recording of the meeting is found at this link.

Please contact your PC Representatives (Amanda Alger & Adrienne Agee) at Jouett.pc.rep@gmail.com for more information.

Teacher Appreciation Week (from PTO)

Hello Jouett Families,

Teacher Appreciation Week is coming up (May 3rd – May 7th) and we would like to start collecting donations for gift cards, to ensure each one of our wonderful teachers and staff members receive a gift of appreciation from us this year. There are two options for donating:

1. Donate cash through Venmo. The PTO Venmo account is @JackJouett-MiddleSchoolPTO. All cash donations received will be used to purchase gift cards in similar denominations for Amazon, Target & Starbucks.

2. Donate gift cards directly to the Jouett office. We will have an envelope at the front desk for collections. Please consider a $10 gift card to Amazon, Target or Starbucks (known teacher favorites!)

Please use the Sign-Up Genius linked below to sign up for your donation. No need to note amounts - just indicate the type of donation through the sign-up so that we can track how many we have.

Jack Jouett Middle School Teacher Appreciation Week Gift Cards!

More to come from the PTO on other activities for Teacher Appreciation Week, but we wanted to get the ball rolling on our gift card donations so that we can plan appropriately.

Please have all donations (cash or gift cards) in by Friday, April 16th.

Thank you for your generosity and helping to show our teachers how much we, and our children, appreciate all they do, especially during this most challenging year

Teacher Appreciation Week

Please help us out in making a video for our teachers to show them some love for Teacher Appreciation Week in May.

Submit a 30-45 second video clip to our Learning Technology Integrator Eric Johnston ejohnston@k12albemarle.org. In the clip, please do not say any specific teacher names, just thank all Jouett teachers for their hard work.

If you are using your cell phone, hold it horizontally when you record.

We would like to have the clips by Friday, April 16.

Thank you for your help with this!

Families Helping Families

Our Jouett community has worked together to start Families Helping Families for ACPS families in need. One of our own Jouett students has created the website with a lot of resources and information. Here is the website to check out: https://fhfacps.wixsite.com/acpsfhf

Support for Students

Please remember that all of our staff is here to for you and your child. We love helping, brainstorming strategies for success, troubleshooting issues, etc. Reach out to any staff member if there is anything you need or want to see from us. We are here to listen, support, guide, and we all want to help! We want each student to be successful and thrive here. This has not been an easy year, but at Jouett, we are in this together;-)

Attendance

Thank you for your continued great work with attendance. Please remind your child that they need to attend GROWL each morning for classroom meeting and announcements. Attendance is taken in GROWL and all four blocks each day.

Also, if a student will be missing class for an appointment or is sick one day, please notify Ms. Bowles, Counseling Office/Registrar at shall2@k12albemarle.org or jmsattendance@k12albemarle.org.
