WKHS e-Learning for Students
Supports for Being a Part of a Virtual Learning Community

The WHY Behind Our e-Learning Design
Supports and Resources for e-Learning
Here are the answers to some questions students may have about how to operate in a virtual learning environment:
"How will I find lessons, activities, materials, etc.?"
Lexington School District 1 uses Schoology as our learning management system. Students can access Schoology through ClassLink on their MacBooks. All teachers have a Schoology page for each of their courses with a folder called, "Weekly Calendar." Inside of that folder, students will find the Learning Communication Tool (LCT) for that course, which will outline the learning for the week and include links to needed materials or resources. The LCT for each class should act as a one-stop shop for the week's learning.
"How can I reach my teacher if I have a question?"
Teachers will hold "office hours" for students in their classes. The purpose is so that students know when a teacher can be reached immediately via e-mail, a Google Hangout Meet, a Schoology discussion board, or however the teacher is directing students to access them. Students can email their teachers outside of those office hours, and they will receive a response within 24 hours, but the office hours allow for more immediate contact.
"Can I work ahead, or do I have to just do the 'lesson' for that day?"
WK teachers used the daily LCT before we moved to e-Learning, and we are using this familiar tool to support a daily schedule, which is a healthy structure to maintain. With that said, students are now in a virtual learning environment, and they are in control of their time! If a student wants to get as much completed as they can on Monday because they have more time than they will have Tuesday or Wednesday, they can go for it. If students like "chunking" their learning by doing something everyday, that works, too. Our goal is to help students stay connected to their learning community, provide clear structure and support, and help manage time without overwhelming students with "work."
"How will I be graded?"
Teachers are going to focus on giving students formative feedback at this time. Teachers and students both need time to transition to this virtual format, so we do not need anyone to feel stress about summative assessments and how students' grades are going to be affected. As we work through this process together, we will provide updates to students and parents.
"What if I get behind?"
Don't worry! We will support you however we can. Ask for help early and often. Don't understand directions for an activity? Reach out to your teacher during office hours or by email. Feeling overwhelmed? Do the best you can do, but be kind to yourself. We want everyone to ASSUME BEST INTENT in this environment, which means we ALL - students, faculty and staff - are doing the best we can. Don't try to be a hero - ask for help! Don't quit - we are here to help! We will all support each other and persevere through challenges together because we are ONE PACK.
"What do I do if I need TECHNICAL SUPPORT with my district-issued device?"
Students with computer issues will need to open ClassLink in their MacBook, click on the BOSSDesk icon, and complete a “ticket.” Paul Stevens, our technician, will address the technology needs. If the MacBook isn't working at all or internet access is an issue, students and guardians may call (803) 821- 1225, (803) 821- 5234, or the Helpdesk at (803) 821-1201.
What other questions do you have?
As questions arise, touch base with the teacher first if your question is about a specific class. If you have other questions, though, fill out this Google form, and someone will reach out to you. You can also contact members of the admin team, and we will help you out, as well!
