From the Desk of Dr. Rodriguez
It's one thing for students to learn content by reading a book or looking at pictures on the web. It's an entirely different level of engagement when students are completely immersed in a topic and can experience what they're learning about through hands-on activities and student-created products. Our Media Center gives our students these opportunities and so many more! Here is a quick breakdown of what our students are up to in the Media Center.
First graders are starting an animal research project this week using QR codes. After selecting unique virtual backgrounds with our green screen technology, the students will then record videos about their animal using the information they researched.
Second graders learned all about tall tales and worked in pairs to write their own. They then drew the scenery as backdrops for their tall tales as they were recounted and recorded.
Our third graders became playwrights, actors, and artists as they wrote scripts to a one-act play. Background images and scenery for the setting were chosen, and throughout the coming week, students will be acting out the scripts they wrote. Stay tuned for some awesome Oscar-worthy performances!
Stop-motion movies about the life cycles of living things were the objective for fourth graders. After shooting about 200 photos for their life cycle stop-motion movies, they chose the background music for the production and then edited the music and movie to create a spectacular piece of motion picture animation.
Finally, our fifth graders traveled to different landmarks around the world. Using our green screen, students placed themselves in the coolest places you could think of. They recorded a live video from that location and took selfies to remember their travels.
Our Media Center continues to challenge our students with amazingly interesting and exciting activities, which bring our curriculum to life in unexpected, awe-inspiring, and highly creative way. Thank you, Ms. Bello, for giving our students experiences that truly open their eyes to the world around them!
On another note, happy Mother's Day to all of the wonderful mothers in our school community. We appreciate all that you do for our students and our school. We hope you enjoy your special day surrounded by those you love most!
Have a great week, and be on the lookout for our next edition of Friday at 4:00!
Sincerely,
Dr. Rodriguez
Special Events
Fifth Grade Week is coming up! We celebrate our "seniors" on May 16 through May 20 with some exciting activities that are sure to wrap up their elementary school years with wonderful memories. More information to follow.
Our annual Art Show is on Thursday, May 19. Please feel free to come by and see the AMAZING masterpieces our students created throughout the year.
First Grade VIPs!
Is there anything better than feeling like a VIP? Well, our first graders can now say they know that feeling all too well! For the last few days of the year, one student from each class will be crowned VIP of the Day and enjoy the treats that come along with being royalty. Included in this day of luxury are a special costume, school supplies, out-of-the-ordinary privileges, and desk decorations indicating that a VIP occupies that space. In case you're wondering just how awesome these last few days are going to be for our students, here are some pictures that will hopefully give you an idea! Thank you, first grade teachers, for making our students feel extra special.
