Ways You Can Help Yourself
Tips for Managing your Feelings
Talk it Out
Be Mobile
Disconnect in a Healthy Way
Go “phoneless” or “technologyless” for a weekend or try it out for one evening
Have a regular set time of when to put the cell/tablets down for the evening
Engage in an alternate activity not dealing with technology or social media: walks, exercise, spend some time outside your home (with parental permission); listen to an inspiring song; read a book; express your emotions/thoughts in writing, painting, drawing etc…, coloring a mandala or in coloring book
Practice Mindfulness
Ways to be mindful include:
- Breathing exercises, focusing on each inhale and exhale
- Eating healthy meals, savoring each bite
- Meditating on a positive word (relaxation, ease or calm) or an image that makes you happy
- Intentionally connecting to an old friend
- Activities such as drawing, coloring, build something out of clay will force you to be in the moment.
- Animals can also help us minimize stress and stay mindful. So if you have a pet, keep them real close!
- Try a mindulness app like Calm, Headspace, Stop Breathe Think, MindShift.

Practice Gratitude
Gratitude means showing appreciation for all the good in your life, instead of focusing on the negative. Get clear about what it is that you’re grateful for. Write out everything in your life you can think of that you’re grateful for having or experiencing. An even more powerful exercise is to think of the one person you’re most grateful for, and write a note explaining why you’re so grateful for having that person. Then give him or her a call and read that note to them.
The difficult time you’re going through will start to seem less significant when it’s compared to everything that’s going right in your life.
