Message from Brenda
Dear Parents, Caregivers and Students,
Welcome back and happy New Year!
We were asked by a branding agency BlueCurrent Hong Kong if they could use our white wall in the playground for an art project to market Hong Kong. They are developing a campaign for the HK Government for ‘Brand Hong Kong’ that’s the ‘Asia’s World City’ dragon + ribbons campaign that promotes HK overseas and locally. Part of the campaign is to showcase HK’s creativity and they are developing a 30-second video that features a HK Graffiti artist creating a piece of street art in the style of the Brand HK logo at Glenealy School!
Over the Christmas holidays the street artist came to Glenealy to complete the process and here is the finished project above! You may notice the Chinese characters for Hong Kong within the art piece.
The company is happy to leave the artwork on the wall for as long as we want so we are fortunate to have the opportunity to decorate the wall at no cost to us. The children have found the artwork very interesting and will be involved in an art project with the artist over the next couple of weeks too. We will keep you informed about this closer to the time.
Update on the School Hall
Six days to go until handover! The last minute bits and pieces are being completed in the hall before we take over the building next Tuesday afternoon. The tile work on the outside of the building is well underway too with completion in a couple of weeks. Everyone is getting very excited!
As a reminder there will be celebrations to open the hall with all children performing in some way. As we will have only about 10 days to practice in the hall please be mindful that the presentations will not be polished performances. Please see the details below and mark these dates and times in your calendar.
Monday January 23rd - 8.30am
A special lion dance will be performed in the playground at the start of school to celebrate the week of Chinese New Year and also the opening of the Performing Arts Centre. You are welcome to join this occasion in the playground. Students only, will then enter the new hall and this will be a special opening just for them! No sneaky peaks for you at this stage!
Tuesday January 24th
6.30pm - Year 3 and Year 5 students will perform to parents. There will also be a small group performing a PE display which you will be notified about if your child is involved. This evening is likely to last for approximately 45 minutes.
Wednesday January 25
8.30am - Year 1 and 2 students will perform to parents in the new space - all welcome. We expect this will last for about 30 minutes.
6:30pm - Year 4 and 6 students will perform. Mrs Matthews dance group will also perform on this evening (she will contact you directly if your child is involved).
Kind regards,
Brenda

Glenealy Top Tech Tip
Technology and media play an important - and often beneficial - role in your child’s life. However sometimes there can be family disagreements about how much is enough screen time and when to switch off the device.
Don't ban; have a plan. The new year is a perfect time to create a family media plan to ensure that your children stick to agreed limits. Encourage them to behave positively online and be up standers, reinforcing what we do at Glenealy School.
Download a Family Media Plan template here. You’ll see single pages organised by Year levels (K-5, Y6-9 etc).
From the Nurses Office
Year 1 and Year 6 immunisation forms will be sent home today and are required to be handed back to the school nurse by Friday 13th January. Please note that these forms are required to be returned to school even if your child is not taking part in the immunisations.
A few points to note:
- Original immunisation records must be handed to the school nurse along with the completed form by January 13th for those receiving the immunisation.
- Immunisations will take place on February 16th. Immunisation records may be collected and signed for by a responsible adult after this date.
- The immunisation forms are provided by the Centre of Health and the school does not keep any spare copies on hand.
