📚Dewey Decimal System Day📚
December 10th
Melvil Dewey invented the Dewey Decimal System. The system is used to help organize books in the library. This makes it easier for you to find what you're looking for. Just think of it as another system of genrefication. Another way to find what you're looking for is based on the topic or type of book you may be interested in.
🎄Christmas Day🎄
December 25th
Christmas is a religious holiday that Christians observe. During this time, many people who celebrate Christmas buy gifts and spend time with their families.
❤️🖤💚Kwanzaa ❤️🖤💚
December 26th-January 1st
Kwanzaa is a cultural holiday that is celebrated by African Americans to celebrate their heritage. Families have feasts, dance, and listen to music. Dr. Maulana Karenga developed Kwanzaa in 1966 as a way to strengthen the African American community. It comes from the pan-African movement and is a way for many African Americans to make connection to their roots. A candle is lit for each day Kwanzaa is celebrated. Gifts are also given that usually relate to the holiday. There are seven principles of Kwanzaa that are written in Swahili, which each candle stands for:
- Umoja (unity)
- Kujichagulia (self-determination)
- Ujima (collective work and responsibility)
- Ujamaa (cooperative economics)
- Nia (purpose),
- Kuumba (creativity)
- Imani (faith).
