Wilhelm Wundt
Father of Modern Psychology
HOW DID WILHELM WUNDT INFLUENCE PSYCHOLOGY?
He established what is known as the first psychology lab, and for "structuralism introspection".
SOME EARLY STUFF
After getting a medical degree from the U. of Heidelberg, Wundt joined the staff and worked under Hermann van Helmholtz, the physicist and psychologist. Sometime during this time period Wundt taught his first course in psychology.
PSYCHOLOGY
Wundt was able to use his background in physiology to teach psychology. In 1871, started writing Principals of Physiological Psychology.
FIRST LABORATORY
The first psychology laboratory in the world was originally a storage room.
STRUCTURALISM
Wundt's belief in analyzing and recording thoughts and sensations and interpreting them (introspection) could break the mind down to its most basic elements.
WELL THEN...
Supposedly he'd been told to leave school and become a mailman.
