Colts,
As I walk the aisles in different stores and see all of the back to school items, I am reminded of the excitement of having all of our Colts heading back to school soon. All of our CMS staff will return next week for team building, professional development, classroom preparations, and Colt Camp/parent orientations, which are a week from today.
We have big plans in place for the start of the school year, some of which are seen below in the upcoming dates. Back-to-School Tech Check
GCISD students and families are getting excited for the 2021-2022 school year! Before you return on Wednesday, August 18, what are some steps you can take to ensure a successful start to the year? The first is a Back-to-School Tech Check!
Each year, GCISD technology staff see an influx of devices that need repair during the first week of school. This can lead to students missing valuable time in class in which their device is needed. To ensure students start the year in the best possible way, please complete the simple steps of GCISD's Back-to-School Tech Check.
Colleyville Police Department needs School Crossing Guards!
School Crossing Guards provide children safe access at high traffic areas near schools, while allowing officers to be available to respond to emergencies. Work outdoors and in an environment where maintaining social distancing is not an issue. Typical work schedule includes approximately 1 hour in the morning and 1 hour in the afternoon, every school day. Hours and locations vary. Must be 18 and starting salary is $15/hour. Apply at colleyville.com. Contact Sergeant Nelson at 817-503-1238 or dnelson@colleyville.com with any further questions.

Counselors’ Corner (Aug. 9-13)
Counselors’ Corner (Aug. 9-13)
Viewing Schedules: The counselors are back at school and getting ready to see you on Friday, August 13th, at Colt Camp and New/Returning Student Orientations.
We wanted to take a moment to explain what some of you are seeing regarding your schedules. What you are seeing is NOT your official schedule. We are constantly making adjustments with courses so things are changing daily. Your final schedule will be available to view or pick up on Friday, August 13th.
Enjoy the rest of your summer!
Lockers: At CMS all 6th graders are issued a locker. 6th graders will receive their locker numbers and combinations at Colt Camp on August 13th and be given the opportunity to practice opening their lockers during that time. Lockers are very small, so we suggest that students not decorate them because they do tend to get jammed and excessive decorations makes that more likely. Most students eventually do not use their lockers during the school year, but we make it available for all 6th grade students because of the newness of having a locker.
7th and 8th grade students who would like to have a locker, may request one by filling out the Google Form linked below and counselors will assign one to you. This form will be open through Friday, August 20th. Counselors will call students into the office to issue locker numbers and combinations during the first week of school. Most students eventually don't use a locker during the school year, which is why it is provided by request.
ATTENTION 7TH GRADE PARENTS

2021-2022 Free Meals Update
2021-2022 Free Meals Update
For the 2021-2022 school year, students enrolled in pre-kindergarten through eighth-grade, and also at Collegiate Academy, will be eligible to receive a free healthy meal every day at school.
Typically, a student’s household must meet income eligibility requirements to qualify for free or reduced-price meals; however, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) issued guidance that allows schools to offer meals to all students at no cost for the 2021-2022 school year. While a free and reduced application is not required for free meals, GCISD will process socioeconomic forms to determine student status which may provide other benefits such as discounts on bus services, academic testing fees, school fees, and college applications. In addition to these discounts, local community services and free hotspots for internet services are available.
Students that attend Colleyville Heritage High School and Grapevine High School must apply to determine eligibility to receive free or reduced-price meals. The application may be accessed at www.schoollunchapp.com. Questions may be emailed to child.nutrition@gcisd.net.
