News from Lions Park School
Letter from the Principal
Dear Lions Park Families,
I want to say a huge THANK YOU to our incredibly generous Lions Park families. The Roar and Run was a great success due to our PTO, you and your children. Special thanks to Zhaleh Naghibzadeh for chairing this fundraiser. The final total raised was $22, 574. This is double the original goal! Due to the large amount raised, our PTO will be able to do even more things to make the school experience positive and memorable for all students. In addition to raising money, the students had fun participating in the spirit days and enjoyed the event itself. We are fortunate to have such an amazingly supportive school community.
Our Lions Park students are lucky to be participating in the Global Read Aloud. This experience will give them the opportunity to connect with students in other parts of the world over a shared reading experience. This is just one of many ways our Lions Park teachers work to build a passion for reading in our students while exposing them to new ideas, viewpoints and experiences. Both reading and technology can be used at home and school to help students become more inquisitive and build their interest in learning. There are many books you could read as a family to use as a springboard for important conversations. There are websites with virtual tours and videos where you and your children can learn about new places and concepts. Encourage your children to ask questions and find the answers.
We will celebrating Halloween on October 31st at Lions Park. We will be celebrating with a parade for all at 1:15pm and parties immediately following the parade. All parents are welcome to attend the parade, but the parties are only for students and the room parents who planned the parties. Costumes are only to be worn in the afternoon. If you are planning to bring your child home for lunch, there will be form sent out via e-mail.
Our parent and teacher conferences are quickly approaching on November 8th, 14th and 15th. If you have not already done so, please sign up at this link. On the top right of each page, there is a drop-down menu that will allow you to access all of the different grade levels. Once you have selected the desired grade level, then you can select your child's teacher from the tabs at the top. We look forward to this opportunity to discuss your student growth.

District 57 Ed. Foundation Grants Available
The District 57 Education Foundation is a non-profit organization comprised of Mount Prospect community members whose mission is to raise money to fund grants in the areas of curriculum, wellness, and technology. Grant requests may be written and submitted by district teachers, staff, and parents. The grants enrich the educational experiences of all students, helping them to achieve at their highest potential. Funded grants allow teachers to have access to the resources they need to support teaching and learning at Westbrook, Lions Park, Fairview, and Lincoln schools.
Over the years, the foundation has funded computers, iPads, ELMO projectors, Smartboards, musical instruments, art supplies, fitness equipment, and supplemental reading material, all to enrich our children’s educational experiences. We are currently in the Fall Grant Request Cycle. A description of the grant request submission process and form is located within the Grants section of our website at https://57edfoundation.org. Grant requests for this cycle are due by Oct 19 to the Ed Foundation at grants@57edfoundation.org.
Parent community members who are interested in submitting a grant request should contact the school principal to which the grant will benefit. The Ed Foundation will review all requests at our November meeting. Please contact the Ed Foundation at d57edfoundation@gmail.com with any questions.
Thank you for your continuous support of the D57 Education Foundation.
