Ortega's Oration
Dear Bryan High Community,
Welcome to the fall season in beautiful Bear Country! We are fortunate to be able to have our normal fall student activities and sports this year, and we hope you have attended a school event or are planning on doing so soon! Our 33rd annual Fall Craft Show this past weekend was a smashing success, with over 1,000 attendees and over 100 vendors! This weekend we have our fall drama production, Clothes Minded!
Our Bryan High School Improvement Plan for 2021-2022 once again includes Freshman On-Track, Instruction, Climate & Culture, and Attendance as our levers for improvement (see attachment). Our new and small learning communities in our Freshman Academy will undoubtedly increase the success of our 9th graders. For Instruction, our teachers are working on increasing student talk in our classrooms. To maintain our positive school Culture and Climate, we continue to prioritize positive student referrals and recognition. Lastly, for Attendance, we are asking for your help by ensuring your student is attending school daily.
Thank you for your continued support and participation in our school academics, activities, and athletics! We have a wonderful and educationally inviting school at Bryan High!

Congratulations, BHS September Students of the Month!
Academies in Action: Urban Agriculture
Senior-Sophomore mentoring: Senior capstone students are paired up with 3-4 sophomore students to meet quarterly and share advice for their first year in agriculture classes. This first session, mentors built relationships with their mentees over snacks in the BHS Courtyard.

16 Juniors and Seniors attended the Nebraska State Fair in Grand Island in early September. They got to tour the grounds, sample food, and meet with small town livestock representatives. Students were thrilled to learn about the opportunities agriculture offers outside of Omaha!

For the first FFA Competition this year, BHS Senior Lilianah Orr participated in the Dairy Judging. Here, she is trying to get a better view of the 2-year-old dairy cows using judging techniques learned in class. She is focusing on dairy strength, udder placement, and overall structure. Nine students competed in six classes of dairy judging and a dairy industry test.
