Car Rider Loop
Please note the car rider loop reminders:
- Please be kind to our staff, they are trying to keep kids safe and help you, there is no need to yell at them. Kindess goes far!
- Cars should pull all the way up, please do not stop to the 'shortest' route. This holds up the entire line and is just not kind to others.
- Students should exit the vehicles immediately upon stopping.
- DO NOT PASS in any area of the carloop. It's just not safe, you do not want to be responsible for hitting someone. It's also not fair to expect our staff to be human shields to make people follow the rules.
- DO NOT CUT THROUGH the parking lot, again not safe and not okay.
- BLOCKING THE BUS LANE prevents our buses from running smoothly, delaying student entry and return home. PLEASE be respectful.
- Students SHOULD NEVER be dropped off on the street and expected to walk across cars, buses and general traffic. This is extremely dangerous and cannot continue.
Violation of our car rider usage practices can result in revoking your car rider priveledges. This is the last thing we want to do, however, the safety of our students and staff is our 1st priority.
Thank you for your continued support.

One School, One Book
AVID Focus: One Pagers
What is a One Pager?
The concept of a one-pager is actually very simple, students share their most important takeaways on a single piece of blank paper.
Students take what they’ve learned—from a history textbook, a novel, a poem, a podcast, a Ted Talk, a guest speaker, a film—and put the highlights onto a single piece of paper.
Why is this Strategy so Powerful?
As students create one-pagers, the information they put down becomes more memorable to them as they mix images and information. According to Allan Paivio’s dual coding theory, the brain has two ways of processing: the visual and the verbal. The combination of the two leads to the most powerful results. Students will remember more when they’ve mixed language and imagery.
Plus, one-pagers provide variety, a way for them to share what they’ve learned that goes beyond the usual written options. Students tend to surprise themselves with what they come up with, and their work makes for powerful displays of learning. Plus, they’re fun to make. Let’s not pretend that doesn’t matter.
What Goes On A One Pager?
Students might include quotations, ideas, images, analysis, key names and dates, and more. They might use their one-pagers to make connections to their own lives, to art or films, to pop culture, to what they’re learning in their other classes. They might even do it all. You’d be amazed at how much can fit on a single piece of paper.
Many teachers create lists of what students should put inside their one-pagers. Knowing they need two quotations, several symbolic images, one key theme, etc., helps guide students in their work.

Ways to Teach Your Child Self-Discipline
Establish routines for getting ready for school, after school and bedtime
Encourage your child to have a checklist of “to do’s” to get use to these routines
When discussing family rules, explain to your child why you have that rule
Give consequences to teach lessons Say, "When you pick up your toys, you'll have more time to play outside." Follow through with a consequence if they don't pick up, but don't yell or try to force them into compliance. Keep in mind that kids need to learn how to make healthy decisions on their own, by examining the potential consequences of their behavior.
Time Outs- If your child refuses to help carry the groceries into the house or won't stop arguing with their siblings, sending them to their room for a few minutes can help them deescalate their emotions so that they are mentally ready to have a discussion about their behavior and make better choices moving forward
Positive praise- Provide positive attention and praise whenever your child demonstrates self-discipline. Point out the good behavior you want to see more often. For example, instead of saying, "Good job not hitting your brother when you were mad," say, "Good job using your words to solve the problem."
Teach problem-solving skills and work together to correct specific issues related to self-discipline. Sometimes, asking kids what they think would be helpful can be an eye-opening experience that can lead to creative solutions.
Model self-discipline- Kids learn best by watching adults. Pay attention to areas where you might struggle with discipline. Perhaps you lose your temper when you're angry. Work on those areas and make it clear to your child that you seek to do better.
