Seeks to discover secrets in a supernatural, mysterious environment. Atmosphere of suspense.
Curses & Supernatural Events
Ghosts, doors that open by themselves, etc. Women who are frightened or confused, wandering around and/or suffering and dying from inexplicable illnesses.
Psychology
Intense emotions, terror, insanity, a sense of impending doom, obsessive love.
Damsel in Distress
Most Gothic story have a young, often beautiful, maiden who is rescued or dies.
Remote Location
Large old houses, usually family estates. Something scary, like explainable events, deaths , or legends that happened at the house in the past, or happens throughout the story.
