Transition Plus Oct 15
Relax, Chill Out and Unwind
A friendly reminder: If you have information that needs to go out to the whole staff, and it can wait until Monday, submit it to be included in the MMM. We are trying to cut down on all staff emails.
The Move
I know not everything in the new building is exactly what everyone wants. I would ask as we move to our new space designed for us, we all have an open mind and be open to things that may be different than we have done in the past. There will be many opportunities for us to model flexibility and adaptability to change for our students.
The built in cabinetry that was originally planned is not in the current plan. Therefore, If you have storage cabinets you would like to bring with you to the new building, be sure to mark them for the move- they will need to be empty in order to be moved.
This week, as we have time you can work on packing on Wednesday or Thursday (if you did not work the trade day (August 20). Remember, we will need to be ready for the move on October 30th before you leave. The movers will be here early October 31st.
Wake Up Fitness 4 Life With Drums Alive! |
DonorsChoose.org project by Ms. Brantner
Help me give my students the necessary equipment recommended by the Drums Alive! curriculum to be successful. My students are learning about choosing Fitness 4 Life. They will be learning about engaging and fun recreational leisure choices through Drums Alive! program this year. The school is providing the curriculum and the teacher training, but our students need the materials in order to participate!

Calling all basketball fans!
The Final Four Fan Jam Truck is visiting Transition Plus on Friday, Oct 26 from 1:30 - 3:30 thanks to Officer Phil!!! A waiver must be signed to participate. Students who are their own guardian can sign their own. Otherwise, waivers can be printed from the attachment or picked up from Colleen's office to be sent home for signing. It will "pop up" in the small parking lot outside of the cafeteria. If the weather is not favorable it will move into the cafeteria.

Equity Partners- Book Study Groups
Each person should find one other person to have some conversations with regarding some equity topics we are going to be going deeper into. Ideally your equity partner is someone who is different than you in some way.
Here are a number of podcasts you can use to have deepened conversations with your equity partner
I have had 5 volunteers to host groups- Thank you to:
- Anie
- Peter
- Tom
- Laura
- Greg
We will talk more about the groups and Equity Partners on November 1st.
Some book suggestions so far are :

October 31st Half day
As we are planning out transportation for our Halloween Half-day, it would be so helpful to have an estimation of how many students will be attending, paying closer attention to students who are on an altered schedule, students in wheelchairs, and our more fragile students.
Please use this week to personally check in with your students/families about their plans for that day. Click on this link to enter your proposed student attendance (I know it won't be 100% accurate but we can get a good enough number to plan for transportation and medical/hygiene needs)
As a reminder, we will be out of the building the whole morning without access to the medical/hygiene equipment that we are used to. Obviously, we will make accommodations as necessary to keep our students safe, but please assume low access.
School Counseling Services
School counselors work in three domains: academic, social/emotional, and college and career readiness. Now that the bulk of the scheduling is complete, I would love to start meeting with more students! If you have a student who needs a check-in or is having a tough day, please consider me as a resource. I am also very interested in helping students determine their future plans, and can assist in the goal-setting/transition process.
Please invite me to IEP/relevant meetings so I can learn more and get to know the students and families better. Additionally, I can teach small Advisory/classroom lessons within any of the aforementioned domains and have been trained in circle practices.
Here is the link to State Graduation Assessment Requirements based on the year the student first entered 8th grade:
