A Message from the Principal
Dear Parents,
As we finish the first full week of our academic year, we are all a little tired, but it's a good tired. We believe we are settling into a successful routine that will pave the way for us to have an excellent year. It's great to see our students and teachers working together to create a welcoming and inclusive learning environment. Each day's journey provides us all with the hopes of having an outstanding 2019-2020 school year.
As we get into our second week of classes, we will begin to offer many events to our students, and you, our parents. Next week we will host our Open House on Thursday at 6 PM. Please bring your student's schedule with room numbers and meet your student's teachers. Also, our Volleyball and Football teams and our Pride of the Park Marching Band will open their seasons this coming week. We wish them the best of luck. Please see details for these events in our UPCOMING EVENTS section below.
I want to give you an update on the incident that happened on Tuesday, involving SPHS, Hoover High, and RC3 students. As you may have read from the district communications, it was reported to the RC3 Administration that a possible threat was Airdropped to an RC3 student. After a thorough investigation, Hoover Police Dept. and Administrations from both high schools determined it was not a credible threat. The student involved received the appropriate consequences as stated in HCS Code of Conduct. Students who engage in this type of behavior do not represent the Spain Park High School student body. As an administration, we want to help the students who make poor decisions, but also we want to continue to support and celebrate the vast majority of our student body who represent SPHS in a very positive way.
As always, I am available to hear your concerns to help us provide your student with the best education experience possible.
Sincerely,
Peter L. Giangrosso
School Announcements
- As a reminder, it is the policy of Hoover City Schools that an adult must bring medication to the nurse in the health room. No student may bring medication to school or to school events without a physician’s order, written parental permission and written permission from the school nurse. Please follow the following links for the paperwork for any medication to be kept at school. Only emergency medications, such as inhalers and Epi-pens, will be allowed to be kept on the person with written permission from a student’s physician, parent and school nurse. This requires this extra paperwork.

Parents and Students: THANK YOU to everyone who bought required reading at the SPHS Library Required Reading Book Sale Fundraiser during registration! We really appreciate your support! For those who have not purchased required reading books, the library will continue to have all of the books on the book list for sale through Friday, August 23. At that point, we will be returning the majority of the books, including the vocabulary books. We will still have a few copies of each title on hand to sell throughout the year, but we can't guarantee the title you might need will be in stock after 8/23. Therefore, please purchase required reading books on myschoolfees or send your student with cash or a check to purchase the books in the library within the next two weeks. A list of the required reading books can be found here: http://bit.ly/libraryfundraiser. Also, if you purchased books on myschoolfees and you have not picked them up, please do so as soon as possible! Questions? Call Marnie Utz, SPHS Librarian, at 439-1542
