Online Safety
Be Smart & Be Safe
Online Saftey
Being safe online is very important, just as important as being safe on the bus, at home, or at the park. Below are some tips to help you stay safe when you are online.
To share or not to share?
NEVER share personal information about yourself, family members, or friends online. Addresses, phone numbers, school, grade levels, and pictures are things that should never be shared online.
Stranger Danger!
Never talk to people you don't know online. Even though a person may seem friendly, you can never know their intentions. NEVER meet anyone in person that you met online.
Why?
Your information can be used maliciously if you share it with strangers. Your identity can be stolen, your computer hacked, and people can do illegal things using your name.
When should I share?
Anytime someone says, sends, or shows something to you online that makes you nervous, uncomfortable, or even mad or scared, that's when you share with a trusted adult. Your trusted adult could be your parents, aunts & uncles, your teachers or school counselor. Never respond to anything that makes you feel bad, always tell your trusted adult first.
