School Updates
Distance Learning Resources Through April 3
SHLS Follows Local School District Closure Dates
Dear Shepherd families,
Shepherd has continued to actively monitor developments regarding the coronavirus (COVID-19) in conjunction with local and state public health officials and Centers for Disease Control (CDC) Therefore, because of the continued evolving nature of this situation and out of an abundance of caution, Shepherd of the Hills School is joining other San Antonio area districts and close school (Pk-8) through April 3, 2020. The Texas Health Department has allowed child care to remain open with restrictions. (listed in FAQS link below) We will be running regular class schedules on Monday, April 13 and Friday, April 24 to make up our April dates.
Staff have implemented a distance learning program for grades Pk-8. You can access learning materials through TADS system. Teachers will be sending emails with information on how to access materials for each teacher. A unified SHLS LEARNING LOG (attached below) will be your homework tracking tool.
TADS Distance Learning Access
1. Sign into TADS at https://educate.tads.com/educate/.
2. Once signed in, scroll down on the TADS homepage near the bottom to find the 'Course Documents' section.
3. In the 'Course Documents' section, click on "documents" to open the documents window.
4. In the documents window, click on the file to open the PDF that your child's teacher attached.
5. Once the file is open, view the information, resources, and/or links the teacher included in the file.
Student Material Pick-Up Drive Thru | Friday, March 20
Learning materials drive thru! Teachers will be at your service and eagerly filling distance learning / student success bags with student materials this week. We will have an SHLS Student Success Bag drive thru open for parents on Friday from 1:00-6:00 pm. A pick up station will be open in the upper parking lot to pick up student bags. Due to recent disinfecting of building and policy on congregating in groups, we will not have the school building open for supply pick up.
While we are putting together your success bags, please take time to set up a study schedule with your children and explore the many online learning options open for students. Attached are a list of options for your students to explore. Please add these to your SHLS Learning Log for the week of March 16-20.
Parents...we know that you have many questions regarding this extended school closure. I have included a Frequently Asked Questions (FAQS) information attachment to this newsletter to help answer your questions.
As you know, this is a rapidly-developing issue. We will remain in close communication with local and state health authorities and will provide updates to our community should any changes in school closures arise.
God be with you,
Sue Gary
