Week 5 Reminders
and Celebrations - Term 4 2021
From the Principal
Happy Friday everyone and is it just me, or are these weeks absolutely FLYING by? :)
Below are a few messages that we really urge you to please read. While we fully appreciate how busy everyone is, making the time to read through the Weekly Reminders keeps everyone well informed and will hopefully decrease stress as these busy end of year weeks unfold. We also include moments of celebration because as a community it is good to celebrate the success and achievements of others!
We have included some really excellent links below to parent articles and webinars that are well worth your time. Please find a few moments to see which ones might be helpful for you.
Congratulations to Sister Geetha who has successfully completed her Catechist training and was commissioned last night. Sister Geetha is a gentle, helpful and pastoral presence in our school and in the St Emilie's Parish. We are indeed blessed!
Congratulations to all the students who entered the Australian Maths Trust competition - some very impressive results indeed!
Congratulations and thank you to our whole school on the extremely affirming Cultural Survey feedback we received via all stakeholders - parents, students and staff (see below).
What a Surprise
It was an absolute joy to catch up with Mark Killing and Sebastian Dobkowski who popped in yesterday after having just completed their Year 12 studies. What impressive young men these two are - friendly, articulate and well rounded - great to see you boys!
OSH Club Survey
For those parents who are keen to have OSH Club open on Pupil Free Days, OSH has kept the survey open until the 18th of November. Currently they don't have enough interest to make it worthwhile for them to do this. If you are interested in accessing this service and didn't respond originally, then the link to the survey is here: https://www.com/r/2SH772T
In our thoughts and prayers
This week was All Saints Day on Monday and All Souls Day on Tuesday.
May we pray for all those we love who have died and may we continue to support and pray for anyone who is struggling with loss and grief at this time. The quote below speaks volumes to me about how grief feels ...
Take care and have a really great weekend everyone!
Thank you Mums and Dads
Thank you to all those families who keep on sprinkling happiness, positivity and a wise, and reflective attitude towards all aspects of your child's school experience. How we, as significant adults in our children's lives, process and communicate their successes, failures, setbacks, conflicts, perceptions, friendship fallouts and more, plays a huge role in how well or otherwise, our children come through the other end!
Every opportunity to be our wisest, calmest, most discerning self, directly supports the growth of our children's resilience, character and progress towards success in multiple domains. When parents and teachers work respectfully together, as a cooperative team, outcomes are greatly enhanced. Well done Mums and Dads and thank you!
Whole School Climate Survey Results
Stuart and I attended a half day inservice last week to unpack and interpret our whole school Climate Survey results. This survey measures various aspects of our whole school culture and it was administered by an external company across a number of Catholic schools in WA. The survey will continue to be rolled out every 2 years.
All families, staff and a group of students from Years 1-6 were invited to complete the survey in Term 3. The results were extremely affirming of our school culture and while more will be discussed in greater detail with staff, at the Advisory Council level and in the Annual School Report, we have included a summary graph for you to look at of the 100 families who participated.
Not all schools receive such overwhelmingly positive results. Suffice to say we are very proud of the daily effort, care and commitment parents and staff give to our students school experience - thank to all those who took the time to provide feedback and for your support, it is very much appreciated.
As a community, may we continue to maintain all the good things we are doing and to challenge ourselves to keep on striving for improvement where we can. Way to go St Emilie's!

Important Calendar Dates
With just five weeks left for students, it is important that families make a note of key dates on the calendar. You can find these on the Google Calendar on the front page of the website and of course the coming fortnight dates in each Weekly Reminders.
Pupil Free Day and Two Way Meetings
The next important date that affects the whole school community is the Pupil Free Day on Monday 15th November.
As you will read below, this day has been set aside for Parent Teacher Interviews and you can choose to attend onsite or connect via a phone call.
Please make sure you have booked a time (details below). We hope you take advantage of this great opportunity to learn more about your child's progress and achievements and that you find the meeting valuable.
Week 6 - Monday 15th November - 2 Way Meeting Day
This meeting can be held face to face, onsite here at school, or as a phone conversation.
Booking instructions are detailed below.
If you are planning to come onsite, please ensure that your children understand that they are to read, colour in or sit patiently just outside the classroom while they wait for you to have your meeting. It is important that these meetings can be conducted without noise and distractions.
As always, we ask that parents are very respectful of agreed times.
This meeting is offered to primarily inform you of how your child is progressing and what you might expect to see in your child's Semester Two report.
If you have something particular you wish to discuss with your child's teacher, please make sure that you have sent them an email detailing your questions well ahead of this date.
Thank you, and looking forward to seeing you.

Competitions are a great way for all students, but especially those with a particular aptitude in a learning area or areas. In this maths comp our students competed against others in our state and nationally. The feedback data we received also helps us to look formatively at the types of errors made, which will benefit these students and the cohort as a whole.
Below is a photo of the students who, based upon their consistently high Mathematics performance here at school, were selected to participate in the AMT (Australian Maths Trust) Mathematics Competition. They competed against children from all around Australia.

A Whole School Community Effort for those in need ...
Please read the letter below that invites you to make a small donation towards our annual support of St Vincent de Paul, who do such wonderful work in the community.
Next week each class will be collecting items that will go towards creating 35 large Christmas hampers for local families doing it very tough at the moment.
We will also be setting up our Christmas Tree in the Office with our Wish Upon a Star tags in mid November. This allows any families who would like to buy a small gift for children of these families, to do so.
Many thanks for your generous support - it is very much appreciated by the families themselves and by all the volunteers who deliver them.

Social Worker PARENT REFERRAL and CONSENT FORM
School social workers focus on the student in the school environment and work collaboratively with principals and teachers to minimise the impacts of personal, family and school difficulties and, where possible, remove any barriers to learning.
With students as their focus, school social workers provide consultancy, advice and support to principals, teachers and other school staff and to families, so that they can best meet the needs of individual and groups of children and young people. There is a strong emphasis on individual student and family counselling and support.
This service is an amazing opportunity for kids, staff and families and one we have wanted in our school for some time.
Please find below the Parent Referral and Consent Form to access our School Social Worker.
You are asked to read the procedure carefully and also note that Kylie only works two days a week. While she will do her very best to accomodate all family referrals, patience may be required as she prioritises her case load and allows time for observation visits, classroom support and playground involvement.
Image Embroidery now services our school community's uniform requirements.
For all uniform queries, please contact a member of the Image Embroidery team (contact details below).
Their store is just 5 minutes from St Emilie's for 'try ons' or you can order uniforms via their online form.
