Beating the Odds

Lakeview Staff Newsletter - January 25

More on Trauma Sensitive Schools ...

Since the beginnings of our Trauma Sensitive Schools initiative began before I was back in the district, I didn't realize that one of the initial activities was to think about Ross Greene's "Kids Do Well if They Can". This is opposed to the idea that "Kids Do Well if They Want To". Here is a 4-minute video that explains the difference and what our role is in that distinction. There is also an article by the same name. This may help as we prepare for Sara Daniels presentation on Monday morning.

Info for Monday's PD Day

Since we did not have our staff meeting this week, I did not get to explain some details about Monday. If you still have questions, please ask. Schedule link.

• Every district employee meets in the HS PAC at 7:30. We will be in the PAC until 10:40, focusing on Trauma Sensitive practices (bring a pen or pencil) and AdvancED.

• At 10:45, elementary staff will return to their own buildings. This includes paras, secretaries, and custodian. We will meet in the library asap in order to continue our discussion about AdvancED and take a survey individually. The survey must be finished before lunch, so please try to get back to Lakeview efficiently. Bring your laptop. Chromebooks will be provided for staff that do not have district-issued devices if needed.

• Paras are done for the day once your survey is completed.

• After lunch, K-12 people will go to their respective meetings.

• Those remaining at Lakeview in the afternoon will meet to talk about the bookroom. We will figure out our exact afternoon starting time before we break for lunch.

• We may finish the afternoon by talking AdvancED a little more as a staff. Personalized PD time will be limited on Monday.
