Rocket Review
Week of January 31, 2020
Last Day of January
We have finished the first month of the new year and are moving quickly through winter. We have been fortunate that the weather hasn't turned very cold or nasty so our kids can get outside each day for some fresh air and a chance to move around. Each day, we remind students to stay off of the icy areas in the lower field of the playground for safety and prevention of wet shoes/clothes. There are lots of other areas to walk, run, explore and play that are not covered in ice.
Morgan is still looking for a few more lunch monitors to help, especially on Tuesday and Wednesday each week. If you have an hour to spare, we could use your help! Lunch monitors work inside and outside during their hour time. If we are short on adult supervision, then our lunch monitors will remain outside, or I will go outside for supervision while a lunch monitor runs the lunchroom, including clean up and dismissal for each shift. We would love to have one lunch monitor per grade each day, which would provide us with 7 lunch monitors each day. The link for applications for lunch monitor is listed further below in our newsletter.
NWEA testing was completed this week. Students who missed testing due to illness can make up their missed test next week. Students in grades K-3, whose NWEA shows a need for reading support, will receive updated or new a IRP (Individualized Reading Plan) in the next two weeks. Teachers will share IRP paperwork for parents to sign. If you have questions on your child's IRP, please contact your child's teacher, or reach out to me for clarification.
Morgan received some good news from the district this week. Thanks to your support on the bond initiative in 2018, all teachers in grades 3-6 will be receiving an additional 2 laptops per classroom for daily student use. Morgan will also be receiving additional laptops for teachers to check out and use throughout the school. These new machines will be arriving prior to the state testing window, which starts in April. All UCS elementary schools will be receiving new laptops for student use from our UCS bond dollars.
Our Morgan students in the upper grades were using their new Ukuleles this week! Miss Quagliotto received a grant from the UCS Foundation for Educational Excellence in addition to donations from Morgan supporters that supplied a class set of ukuleles for music class. Our UCS carpenters even found a great way to hang the ukuleles on the music room wall for storage. Thank you for the UCS Foundation and to anyone who donated to Miss Quagliotto for supporting music education at Morgan.
Have a good week,
Mrs. Lasky

Eisenhower NHS Tutoring
Parents may register their students by submitting a request located on our website:
http://ikenhs.weebly.com/eagle-tutoring.html.
This will allow us to prepare adequate tutors for each subject matter. We ask that parents complete the form by Sunday night each week in order to allow us to organize the correct number of NHS students.
Their goal is to provide a safe and productive environment for both students needing help and our NHS members offering their service. Additionally, a staff member will be on site every week checking in registered students and monitoring the sessions.
Looking for Lunch Monitors!
Tuesday and Wednesday are in NEED!
If you would be interested in helping in the lunchroom, please fill out a lunch monitor application with EduStaff. A link to the application can be found below. You will need to create an account, enter your information, complete some online training modules, and have a background check with finger prints. Then you can work as many lunch days as you would like and be paid for your help!
Several of our lunch monitors also complete additional training in EduStaff to serve as substitute paraprofessionals in our building. If you are interested in becoming a substitute paraprofessional, please use the EduStaff application process below.
If you have questions about becoming a lunch monitor or the online process, please contact Melissa Roth in our main office at 586-797-5800.
