Constitution Day
September 17 is designated as Constitution Day to commemorate the signing of the Constitution in Philadelphia on September 17, 1787, and we celebrated with a variety of lessons and activities. This day focused on the following learning standard:
- Explain that the United States government is founded on the belief of equal rights for its citizens.
Be sure to check out the cooperative "quilt" that students crafted that features The Preamble. Photographs are featured below.
Mastering the Math Facts
We now have many students who've passed the addition portion of math facts, and several who have earned their license plates already. Way to go! Of those students, several are dangerously close to passing their subtraction timed tests. How is your child progressing? We do math facts practice here at school every day, but let's make moving through those addition and subtraction facts an at-home priority, too. With the move to double-digit addition with regrouping, those students who have not memorized these facts are really struggling. Remember, the goal for 2nd grade is 50 addition and then 50 subtraction facts in 2 1/2 minutes.
Next Week's Share Topic: A Sense of Fall
Can you believe that Monday will be the first day of autumn? Using our senses, in what ways do we know that fall has arrived? What smells do we smell? What sounds do we hear? What things do we see, taste or touch?
Enclosed in this week's Friday folder, you will find the October share topic schedule. Remember...these weekly topics are not optional. Participation in the oral share topics ensures students have the skills necessary to meet the Indiana academic learning outcomes for speaking and listening.
