The Summer Experience

Workshops for the Evolging 21st Century Teacher

What is new ...

During the summer there will be opportunities for you to gain helpful insights in your quest to teach in a 21st century environment. With the refresh of your iPads it may be difficult to have full hands on programs, however growth can still take place. In the summer we will be offering a series of 5 workshops that will better prepare you for the 2014-2015 school year. All the courses are on-line. Hopefully this will give you more flexibility as you are not restricted to only the workshop that fit your schedule. We introduce to you Professional Development On-Demand (PDOD). You may take any workshop (or workshops) during the summer. The only restriction is that you need to sign up for the workshops by Friday June 27, 2014. You may begin working through the classes. All classes must be completed by August 29, 2014, except for Common Sense Media Certification workshop (Please see details of that specific workshop).

As always face to face assistance will always be available. This 1:1 experience can assist you in working through the workshops or help you to initiate ideals and implement strategy into your lesson plans for 2014-2015.

Introduction to Prezi

One of the greatest innovations in education was the blackboard. For the first time in history, teachers could present their lessons visually and engage students to participate in the conversation. The whiteboard has done the same for business—helping us to explore and share ideas more effectively.

Prezi is a virtual whiteboard that transforms presentations from monologues into conversations: enabling people to see, understand, and remember ideas.

In this workshop you will learn the basics of Prezi's, gain ideas of how to incorporate Prezi's into your class or allow students to use Prezi for presentation, also use Prezi to incorporate class collaboration, and so much more.

Creating your own Professional Learning Network's (PLN)

A workshop as presented by Michelle Bourgeois, Colleen Glaude, and Katie Morrow at the 2009 FETC in Orlando. The concept of PLNs is to create connections and develop a network that contributes to their professional development and knowledge. The idea is that as professionals we week out others that have experience in areas that we would like to enhance our own skills. This connection allows for an informal learning network that consists of the people a learner interacts with and derives knowledge from in a personal learning environment. Participants will watch video, read articles if they choose, and visit blogs, website of individuals whom could become part of their PLN. The goal is at the end of this workshop each participant will have a minimum of five items (people, companies, etc) in their own PLN.

Go Green!  The Shift of the Paper Paradigm

A paperless classroom is just that... paperless. It is not only the effort, but the successful integration of technology in the classroom that eliminates all purposes of paper, ink, clutter, and stuff. Instead, this classroom will be completely cloud based. Students will be able to access their lessons, homework, and grades solely through the internet or school network. This workshop is to help you and allow for the sharing of ideas, methods and ways to manage a paperless classroom. You will learn from top "green" educators throughout the country. Both for middle school and high school options.
