New Vaping Policy (effective January 1, 2020)

SPRING ACT PRACTICE TO BEGIN!

ORHS begins our Spring 2020 ACT series THIS WEEK as we lead up to the March 31 Schoolwide ACT for juniors. On Wednesday, January 8, at 2:00 PM in the Amphitheatre we will focus on the Reading sub-test in a session that should last for about 90 minutes. Sessions this spring will look a little different from the fall sessions: we will first learn about a high-value ACT standard, then we will take the sub-test, and then we will examine the results during that session. Please sign up (so that I have a test and answer sheet for you) by emailing AEtheridge@ortn.edu and indicating your interest. Although we want to draw as many juniors as possible, all ORHS students are welcome to participate.

Visit at Woodland Elementary School “Santa Claus” is “Sankt Nikolaus”?”

he German 3 Honors students followed an invitation from a Woodland Elementary first grade teacher to present a unique holiday from another country.

The German 3 Honors students were immediately excited. They brainstormed, planned and delivered a skid, appropriate for first graders, on Sankt Nikolaus, one of German children’s favorite Christmas traditions.

The students showed team spirit in writing the skid, picking roles, organizing the transportation to and from the event and being open for a question and answer session following their presentation.

Abigail Shanken, Jonathan Hiatt and Bence Kertesz were the narrators while Levi Parish and David Joy came as “Bischof Sankt Nikolaus” with his helper “Knecht Ruprecht”. Props and skid left the first graders glued to the Oak Ridge High School students lips. Lots of questions were asked figuring out the difference between Santa Claus in the USA and Sankt Nikolaus in Germany. They did not fear “Knecht Ruprecht” when he gave them all a traditional gift of mandarins. No, not coals! – they all were good kids in 2019.

Special thanks go to two other students who could not participate in the performance but played a role in the preparation: Brandon Herandez and Terrance Ladd. Thank you to the German 3 Honors students!

WAYS TO FINANCIALLY SUPPORT ORGANIZATIONS AT ORHS!

FOOD CITY SCHOOL BUCKS PROGRAM!

It’s time for Food City’s School Bucks Program that helps support ORHS-CDC! The program begins Wednesday, September 4, 2019 and ends on May 5, 2020.

Parents can use this to easily link their ValuCard to their school of choice at checkout.

• At the cash register, have the cashier scan the barcode along with your Food City ValuCard. This will automatically link the two together, which means you only need to scan this barcode one time. The PLU listed below may also be entered at the cash register by the cashier in lieu of scanning barcode.

• Parents also can register their ValuCard online by visiting www.foodcity.com/schoolbucks

From that point, it’s simple… just shop and earn valuable points for your school. Remember this is a ValuCard program… use your ValuCard and save for ORHS-CDC. Nothing has to be done again until next school year!

*Please share the barcode information with family and friends! You can only register your ValuCard with one school/program so please make it ORHS-CDC! Thank you in advance for your support!
