The week of February 10-16 is School Board Recognition Week. Gasconade County R-I Schools benefits from the dedication and countless hours devoted by our seven board members. These locally elected public servants volunteer their time, and we recognize them and the important contribution they make and thank them for the important role they play in educating our children.

During the meeting.....
Prior to the regular meeting, a calendar hearing was held. The 2019-2020 calendar was presented which includes built-in snow days was approved by the board.
In the regular session, Dr. Scott Smith and the board recognized the school counselors this month for all they do throughout the district, often behind the scenes, to help our students. Keri Poehlman at the Elementary, Crystal Pehle in the Middle School, and Patti Pazdera at the High School were thanked for their service to our school and students.
Dr. Smith presented the board with a new contract for transportation services with Schwartz Bus. The contract outlines the specifications for daily bus services for the 2019-20, 2020-21, and 2021-22 school years and was unanimously approved by the board.
After discussing the benefits, the board approved moving the 4th grade class from the Elementary to the Middle School building. This move will give the Elementary more space and allow better use of facilities to possibly increase the Early Childhood area in the future. The board also approved the addition of a new course at Hermann High School "Computer Science II", which will be the next level of the current Computer Science coursework offered.
This year's Annual Performance Report (APR) shows the school district scored 100% of the points required for accreditation. These points are earned through Academic Achievement, Subgroup Achievement, College and Career Readiness, Attendance Rate, and Graduation Rate. To see more detailed information, check out the Achievement Data Report.
Due to the recent purchase of a school bus, the board declared bus #7 as surplus last month and it was advertised for sale. The bid deadline was noon on February 13th, and the winning bid from Mr. John Davidson for $3,026.00 was accepted by the board.
The board did a final review of policy GCPB which outlines consequences for certified staff who give late resignation from a contracted position. The board did the final reading and moved to approve this policy.
In closed session, the board approved the hiring of Ms. Angela Bauer as the new German teacher at Hermann High School for the 2019-20 school year. The board accepted the resignation of Linda Lampkin after 40 years of service and named Philip Landolt as Head Volleyball Coach for the 2019-20 school year. The board also renewed the contracts of district certified administrative staff: Kendra Brune, Nicole Buschmann, Maranda Anderson, Todd Anderson, and Missy Ash. Emily Engemann, Ryan Kottman, Roxanne Borgerding, and Randy Riddle were added to the approved list of substitute teachers. We welcome them to the Bearcat staff!
