CHRIST-KING CATHOLIC SCHOOL
December 2022
Faith Moment
We are so excited to be in the season of waiting....waiting for the best gift we have ever been given! What is Advent? Check out the video below!
We celebrate in many ways at CKCS. Every day we light our Advent wreaths in our classrooms, we add to our classroom Nativity sets and read from our Christmas devotionals. We practice the spirit of giving through Acts of Service like our Ornament Raffle that supports our school sponsor child Meera, and our JH charity project for the Red Deer Teens Shelter. We practice and perform our Advent Concert that revolves around the most amazing story that we love to share!
Advent is such a special season for us all and we cannot wait to share it with our CKCS families!
CKCS Advent Concert
Our Advent Concert "Hotel Noel" is this coming week! We have two performances at 1:00pm & 7:00pm. In order to accomodate all our families, we would ask that extended family members (i.e. grandparents etc.) come during the afternoon performance. We have 165 students with families we must fit in the gym so we would ask that the evening performance is reserved for parents.
After our 7:00pm performance, there will be snacks and coffee organized by CKCS School Council. We are asking all families with the last name between N-Z to supply a dozen baked goods to this event. All baking can be dropped off to the school prior to Thursday, or brought that night!
CKCS Code
December Code Cred Prize - Principal for a Day!
At CKCS, we follow the CKCS Code which is made up of 5 important truths:
- I am a valuable member of the CKCS family.
- I am responsible for my words and actions.
- I treat others the way they would like to be treated.
- I work hard on all tasks.
- I respect all property.
This Code was developed out of the "Fruits of the Spirit" from the Bible. Students learn about the Code in the month of September and are encouraged to demonstrate it in all aspects of their day. When students are exemplifying the Code, they may earn a "CKCS Code Cred". This is a ballot that they can add to a monthly draw. Prizes change each month - sometimes they are individual prizes or prizes a student can win for their class.
CKCS Bookworms
Students worked hard on their November Reading Bingo sheets for the CKCS Bookworms. Altogether they were able to earn 1,611 points out of 25,000 points. All of December's Bingo Cards will be worth 3x the points in the spirit of Saint Nic!
What are they earning points towards?
Every year, Mrs. McMillan challenges the CKCS Bookworms (the CKCS student body) to read at home. If they are able to complete her challenge by the end of the year, she will follow through with something ridiculous! In past years, she has had to dye her hair rainbow colours and has slept on the school roof for 24 hours.
This year, if the CKCS Bookworms can reach 25,000 reading points (each bingo card is worth 20 pts), then Mrs. McMillan will provide ice cream sundaes for the entire school. In addition, students will be give the chance to turn Mrs. McMillan herself, into an ice cream sundae - complete with ice cream, sauces, sprinkles and cherries.
Spirit Days
At CKCS, we have a Spirit Day every other Friday. A theme is set and students are invited to dress up to show their school spirit. It is completely optional and not mandatory! Often we add to the fun by changing up our school bells etc. to match the theme!
December 1st - Ugly Sweater Day
December 16th - PJ Day
CKCS Chargers
The Charger Volleyball teams had amazing seasons this year! Although CARA was cancelled, the girls played in a make-up match and won the CARA Consolation Tournament!
Our teams also had a blast at our wrap-up event at Red Deer College where we watched the Kings and Queens take on Lethbridge. The Staff team also took the win once again at the Staff vs. Students volleyball game!
A huge thank you to our coaches Miss Lozeau (Girls team) and Mrs. Henderson (Mixed team) who took on the volleyball season and volunteered their time to give our students an awesome experience!
More information will come soon as we look forward to our Basketball Season.
CKCS School Council
The next School Council Meeting will be on Monday, January 16, 2023 @ 7pm. It will be in-person with a virtual option.

School Council plays a very vital role at Christ-King. They fundraise to provide events for our students, they organize hot lunches, staff appreciation and so many other activities. Since they do so many things for our school, it does take volunteer power. Please consider coming! We know life gets busy so you do not need to attend every meeting, nor are you expected to volunteer for every event in the year. Please just help out as you can!
