Ralston High School Fall Check-In

Information for Students & Families - July 2020

Ralston High School Families,

As we start the month of July, RHS continues to plan for the upcoming 2020-2021 school year. We want to ensure you and your student adequate time to prepare for Fall Check-In. This year will be a little different as we must follow specific guidelines to keep our students, families, and staff healthy and safe. Also at Fall Check-In, your student will receive their school-issued computer through the District’s 1:1 Technology Initiative.

With new safety guidelines in place, RHS estimates it will take about an hour for each student and parent/guardian to complete the check-in process.

RHS will require each student to attend Fall Check-In together with a parent/guardian, unless the parent/guardian has completed the online verification prior to check-in date. RHS will have a “Fast Pass” lane at the Computer Issue Station for families who have completed their online student verification.

Information will be coming soon from the District on how to complete the verification process. Please keep an eye on your email as RPS will communicate when it is open. If you do not complete the verification process before Check-In, please plan on additional time to complete it during Check-In.

Dates & Times and Health & Safety Guidelines

To ensure RHS staff can adequately handle the number of people in our building and adhere to the safety guidelines, RHS families must attend Fall Check-In only at times designated for their grade level. Families with multiple RHS students may choose the day and time that works for them. The schedule is posted below.

Safety Guidelines

  • All people entering RHS must wear a mask. Please bring a mask from home if you have one.

  • To keep our occupancy numbers low, we ask only the student and one guardian attend Check-In.

  • Please bring a pair of headphones/earbuds to use at the computer checkout station.

  • At all times, please stay 6 feet apart from others.

Big picture

1:1 Technology Initiative

Ralston Public Schools has invested in a 1:1 Technology Initiative for our students. What this means for our high school students is:

  • A Chromebook will be issued to each high school student after the online training has been completed through verification.

  • Students and teachers will be using the computers to:
    -Enhance learning in the classroom
-Provide classroom instruction if we move to a remote learning environment

  • Students will be responsible for their 1:1 device including any costs incurred due to loss, theft, or damage. The District will be providing an insurance policy to help with unexpected costs that may be purchased.

The Importance of RHS Fall Check-In!

Fall Check-In is very important to complete before the first day of school.

At Check-In, Students and their Parent/Guardian will complete the following:

  • School Counselor: Make appointments if necessary to help with schedule questions or concerns.

  • Outstanding Fees: Pay or make a payment plan.

  • Photo: Have your photo taken and receive your New School ID for the 2020-2021 school year.

  • Immunizations: These will be verified by the School Nurse. Students with outdated immunizations will not be able to start the school year. Please bring your updated records with you to Fall Check-In.

  • Medications: Bring all medications that need to be given during the school day by the nurse. Please fill out this form and bring it with you before attending Fall Check-In.

  • School Physicals: Students interested in participating in sports at RHS must turn in a school physical. All incoming freshmen who plan to play sports are required to turn in a physical (Dated May 1, 2020 or after) before beginning practice. Any student-athlete who participated in sports last year who had a physical on file WILL NOT have to turn in one for the 2020-2021 school year. Any student in grades 10-12 WHO DID NOT play sports last year but will this year WILL HAVE TO turn in a physical (Dated May 1, 2020 or after).

  • Activities Pass: Purchase your Activities Pass for $40.00. This is optional unless you participate in extracurricular activities, then it is part of the required fees. This would include all sports, band, cheer and dance, debate, speech, vocal music including show choir and drama.

  • Yearbook: Purchase your 2020-2021 RHS Yearbook for only $60.00.

  • Lunch Account: Add money to your lunch account.

  • New - 1:1 Technology Initiative: Receive your school-issued Chromebook computer. Before receiving your Chromebook, both the student and parent/guardian must watch a set of videos and sign an agreement on appropriate technology usage for the school-issued device.

  • New - Technology Insurance: Purchase insurance for your new school-issued computer.

  • Return of Materials: If you have textbooks or school equipment at home from last year, please bring them with you to Fall Check-In.

  • Online Verification: Computers will be available for you to complete your Online Verification if you have not completed it prior to arriving at Check-In.
