Title: Using Writing as Evidence of Learning for Primary Grades (myPGS Section # 13837)
Participants will:
· develop a deep understanding of how do develop our youngest learners in the area of writing.
· identify evidence of application of foundational skills through writing.
Date/Location: January 23rd 4:45-6:45PM; District Office Complex, Building 3 Training Room C
Reading Big Words
Teach flexible ways for students to attack any longer, more complex words. Try this strategy:
- Look for the word parts (prefixes) at the beginning of the word.
- Look for the words parts (suffixes) at the end of the word.
- In the base word, look for familiar spelling patterns. Think about the six syllable patterns you have learned.
- Sound out and blend together the word parts.
- Say the word parts fast. Adjust your pronunciation as needed. Ask yourself, "Is it a read word? Does it make sense in the sentence?"
