Victor Pacini’s "Be Seen and Heard" Program is Next Week
Sorrick Elementary School is excited to welcome back Victor Pacini for his program entitled "Be Seen and Heard" during school on Monday, January 13, 2020. All Sorrick students are invited to attend this presentation which focuses on teaching children basic skills to keep them safe from dangerous or abusive situations. This opportunity is in accordance with Erin's Law (HB 6193) which mandates that Illinois public schools provide educational curriculum regarding personal safety, abuse education and prevention to students.
Should you have any questions regarding the law or its implementation, please contact Mrs. Natalie Profita 708-233-8200 or Mrs. Tara Hanson at 708-233-8095 or you can go to Victor's website at victorpacini.com.
If you prefer that your child opt-out of this prevention education session, please submit in writing to your child’s teacher.
ACCESS Testing for English Learners
Translated letters available in Arabic, Polish or Spanish
Dear Families,
Each year, our students take federally required assessments. These assessments help us understand how our students are growing academically. One of these assessments, ACCESS for ELLs 2.0, will be administered to students between January 22nd and February 21st, 2020. This assessment will measure your child’s progress in listening, speaking, reading, and writing English language skills.
The purpose of the ACCESS assessment is to help school districts monitor the English language development of all students who are identified as English language learners. Any student who is identified as an English Learner (EL) - even those that are not serviced through our EL program - are required to participate in this assessment.
In North Palos School District 117, our goal is to provide the best opportunities for our students. Because of this, we value the information we receive from ACCESS and fuse it with additional data points to continuously improve our programs. Thank you for your partnership in your child’s academic success.
If you have any questions pertaining to ACCESS, please don’t hesitate to contact your building administrators.
Sincerely,
Shadia Salem
Director of English Learning

5Essentials Survey
The Illinois 5Essentials Survey provides an opportunity for parents, students, and staff to share specific information about their school. The survey information is part of the school report card. In NPD117, we use this information in our continuous improvement process.
If you have children attending more than one school, we ask that you complete the survey for each school. The parent survey is available in both English and Spanish, and only takes approximately 10 minutes to complete. This survey will be available until February 14, 2020.
To take this short survey:
- Visit https://survey.5-essentials.org/illinois/
- Type and select “Cook” as "County."
- Type your child’s school name into the "School" field and select your school.
Thank you in advance for your input!
