Engage Program
Dear Parents,
We wanted to make you aware of a new initiative from the South Carolina Department of Education. It sounds like a great opportunity for some of our leopards to receive a little extra learning support. Who couldn't use a coach? Please see the information below for more details on this FREE program and how to sign up!
South Carolina Department of Education Launches New Statewide Program to Engage Students and Families
Columbia, S.C. — Today, State Superintendent of Education Molly Spearman announced a new program that will support students who need help navigating the challenges of COVID-19 learning environments.
The ENGAGE South Carolina program will provide students in kindergarten through twelfth grade who have fully or partially disengaged from their education due to the COVID-19 pandemic with a personal academic coach who will help the student develop plans for academic success in challenging times, answer questions about technology and curriculum, monitor the student’s pace and progress throughout the school year, and build bridges to additional community support programs.
“Throughout the pandemic, the lives of so many of our students and their families have been upended, and understandably many students have struggled with this transition,” said State Superintendent of Education Molly Spearman “ENGAGE South Carolina is designed to support these learners and help ensure they stay on track for graduation and beyond.”
ENGAGE South Carolina is a partnership between the South Carolina Department of Education and Graduation Alliance, an organization that creates equitable learning experiences for students who might otherwise struggle in school. All South Carolina public schools are able to opt-in to the program at no cost to them or the families that will be served.
There are many reasons why a student might be disengaged or not progressing academically — and even those who were previously thriving in their classes before the pandemic may now be struggling. The COVID-19 pandemic has introduced new and exacerbated previous learning obstacles that are not the fault of students, parents, or educators. The COVID-19 learning environment is new to us all and the support offered by ENGAGE South Carolina will help those struggling to navigate through these difficult times.
Families looking for additional support for their students during this school year can sign up directly at https://parentssc.graduationalliance.com.

CFK PTA
Dear CFK Parents,
Welcome to the 2020-2021 school year at CFK! The CFK PTA Board is Iooking forward to working with parents and teachers this year. As we start an uncertain year, we still need our families to be involved. Our leaders and teachers are working in ways that are new to everyone. It is more important now than ever before to show our support for our teachers and staff. By joining the PTA you are:
Strengthening the relationship between parents and CFK
Funding the $250 that every teacher receives yearly to purchase classroom materials
Helping to financially support the purchasing of resources, materials, literature, and supplies for our library and science lab
Helping with special events such as Grandparents Day, Veterans Day, End of the Year Yearbook Signing and the Color Run
Funding curriculum needs specifically related to Core Knowledge
Funding Professional Development days so teachers can have opportunities to plan collaboratively
Helping to purchase recess equipment (sports equipment, jump ropes, etc.)
Training and supporting homeroom parents and school volunteers
Offering scholarships for families in need so every child can attend field studies
Supporting school administration in meeting annual goals
Providing classroom supplies and teacher “wish list” items which maximize their curriculum and instructional delivery
This year will be unique in terms of volunteering and our ability to host events on campus at the school, but we need your involvement and flexibility more than before.
The month of November is CFK PTA Membership Month. We are excited to offer new levels of PTA membership this year. Due to the flexibility of scheduling student classes in the physical spaces of the Library or Science Lab, we are not including this separate fee on the membership form for this school year.
Please feel free to contact your CKF PTA with any questions or concerns. Our email address is cfk.pta@gmail.com. We look forward to making this an exciting school year! Be on the look out for more information to come on ways to join!
Thank you,
