Smithsburg Middle School
January 2018
Principal's Message
Dear Smithsburg Families,
Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a chance to relax, reflect, and reenergize over the cold winter break. We are picking up right where we left off with teachers and students working hard to implement and learn the Essential Curriculum.
We ended December with some great events: The Band, Chorus, and Orchestra concerts were excellent and loved by all. The PTSA hosted a successful and fun activity night, the 8th grade class took a field trip to the Maryland Theatre, and we ended with a school-wide PBIS activity.
Looking ahead to this month, we have many exciting events and activities planned. The Geography Bee, the SGA Pennies for Patients Fundraiser, a Faculty Honors Activity Night, our second STAR Ceremony, the School Fundraiser Mega Event, a PBIS activity, and we end with our 3-on-3 Basketball tournament with all proceeds being donated to the Humane Society.
We encourage you to continue to be an active part of your child’s education by maintaining the lines of communication between the school and home. Regularly checking ParentVue is also a great way to stay informed about academic progress. Thank you for your continued support and feel free to contact me with any questions, comments, or concerns. I wish you a healthy and happy New Year!

PTSA News:
- Thanks to those who attended and helped with the PTSA sponsored Activity Night in December. It was a fun night for the students, and we collected canned goods and food items and donated to Tabitha’s Table.
- Our next Dining to Donate night is at Rocky’s Pizza on Jan 29th from 5 to 9 pm. This is a nice supplement to our fundraising, supports local businesses and you don’t have to cook!
- We welcome everyone to our next meeting January 8th and February 5th at 6pm in the Media Center.
- Don’t forget to clip those BoxTops! This is an easy way to raise funds for the school.
- For PTSA reminders, we use the Remind app. Text @af4b8d to 81010.
- Like our page on Facebook “Smithsburg Middle PTSA” and our email is SMPTSA@gmail.com
