SSR Project 5th-6th weeks

Why did I choose this?

To start with, I chose the book ‘Deadly Little Secret’ by Laurie Faria Stolarz for my SSR project. The reason I chose this book is simply by the book cover. The white letters with patterns, a girl standing by the tree in bare feet. I saw this mysterious.

Identify the LIFE LESSON

The lesson I learned from this book is that whether it is little or big, stalking is a crime. It showed the way that love goes to obsess, and how obsess becomes stalking. As the main character Camelia says, “Love isn't rational, it's instinctive”, but when it comes to stalking, I think differently. After the incident Camelia might think so too. Like Camelia waited and tried to solve the stalking problem with her friend Kimmie, the problem got bigger. When Kimmie recommended her to talk with her parents, Caemlia responses “Just give me a couple more days,”. If she had accepted Kimmie’s advice, the stalker would have been caught before things happened. I realized that it is important to tell things like this to parents or the police. If she did so, she wouldn’t have been kidnapped later on.

In Matt’s side, as Kimmie says “I do know that living in the past only messes up your present” He should have moved on when it ended with Camelia, and live for the future. He didn’t let go Camelia, and the obsession started.

Also I learned that secrets always comes out. The secret that Ben was hiding, and the fact that the real stalker was Matt, people know eventually.

My LIFE LESSON connects with the song :

Every Breath You Take by THE POLICE NOW!

The Police - Every Breath You Take

"Every Breath You Take" is a song by The Police on the band's 1983 album Synchronicity, written by Sting and Andy Summers. The single was one of the biggest hits of 1983, topping the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart for eight weeks. I selected this song because the lyrics relates to Deadly Little Secret.

When I was flipping through the novel, reading the journals the stalker wrote about Camelia, I was thinking about this song and how exactly matches. At the beginning of his journal it says “I had to have her. I still do. And one day, very soon, I will”. During this project, I did some research about stalking songs, and I realized that the stalkers all have the same thought: I need to have her. To put it another way, even in this song says “you belong to me”. This song has a bright atmosphere and without knowing the lyrics, it might have been a cute love song. But with the lyrics, it becomes creepy because of the thought that it is a stalker anyway. I could see how different love and stalking is, and as i read the book, it has a possibility that could end up to a crime.
