Admissions Beat
For Families Considering Burke | April 2020
Dear Prospective Families,
This is a tumultuous time for all of us, and it is a challenging time to begin your school search; but we will do everything possible to make this process simple and low-stress. If you have any needs or questions, don't hesitate to email us.
Our Admissions process has been fully online since March. While we wish that you could visit our campus in person, we have numerous opportunities to connect virtually:
- "Mid-Morning Coffee with Admissions" for Parents | May 5 at 11 AM - REGISTER
- "Get To Know Us" Q &A for Students | May 6 at 4:30 PM - REGISTER
- "Coffee with Admissions" for Parents | May 19 at 9:30 AM - REGISTER
- "Get To Know Us" Q &A for Students | May 20 at 4:30PM - REGISTER
We look forward to connecting!
Best,
PS: We hope you enjoy the video above. Our faculty and staff wanted to remind our students that they are always there for them – in a creative and musical fashion.
Responsive and Close-Knit
In times of stress or uncertainty, this comparatively small size confers tremendous value.
We can adapt swiftly and creatively to change. We can adjust our supports and resources as needed. And students and families have multiple points of contact – from advisors to Grade Deans to the Head of School – when they are in need.

Connections and Creativity
The school experience has been markedly different this spring, and we wanted to provide some insight into how Burke is adapting. Until we can safely return to campus, our goals are to provide a clear, consistent Distance Learning Program.
At Burke, we also have the freedom to refine and adjust our program as we move forward and to work closely with families. For example:
- After the first week of remote learning, we surveyed students, parents, and faculty about their experience; leadership and department chairs reviewed the results and presented updates to the program via video.
- Advisors held one-on-one online "learning check-ins" with advisees and their parents, discussing their progress and need for any support.
- Last week, we offered seven online "Family Town Halls" (one for each grade), hosted by the Head of School, School Psychologist, Head of the Middle School, and Academic Dean for the High School.
On our new Distance Learning page, you can learn more about our design principles, tablet program, learning support, counseling, and college planning, as well as sample lessons and student schedules.
