H-F Boys Cross Country

September 25th, 2015

Day off of School - But NOT off of Practice!

While HF High School was closed for classes on Wednesday, the boys team still met for our daily practice. They did get to sleep in bit since we did not have our normal pool practice. Instead we met at 8am and completed an Indian file run around the campus. Afterwards, the boys continued practice in the North weight room. Each week we spend 1-2 day stretching on the TRX Suspension Trainers and working through our core routine. The strength and conditioning coach here at HF, Steve Szymkowiak - or "Szymko" for short - has helped us create a strength-training routine specifically for long distance runners. We will continue working on our current exercises and will even add a few more before the end of the season.

But the best part of the workout may have been the PANCAKES! Thank you to Blueberry Hill Pancake House in Homewood for catering so early in the morning to feed the boys after a long workout with pancakes, butter, syrup, powdered sugar and fruit.

Homewood 153 Fund Run

This past Sunday, our boys and girls cross country teams volunteered at the annual Homewood 153 Fund Run. The athletes worked the water tables at about the 1 & 2 mile markers and helped to encourage the runners along the way. They even cheered me on a bit to help me beat my husband this year!

We saw some other familiar faces on race day - including 2 other math teachers from HF High School, and Stewart's mom! Thank you to everyone for your help in making this another successful event for Homewood Schools and the community!
