Diphtheria causes blue coloration of the skin, chills, breathing problems, hoarseness, sore throat, and drooling.
The Vaccination
Possible Side Effects
Half of the people vaccinated with DTaP will not have any kind of side effects. There is a possibility that the other half will experience very mild reactions. These could include soreness in the location of the shot, fever, fatigue, vomiting, or loss of appetite. There is a 1% chance that children vaccinated might have very high fevers, seizures, and other major reactions. However, this happening is very unlikely to happen.
Ages or Circumstances at which the Vaccination is Given
This vaccination is given to children in doses at these ages: 2, 4, 6, 15-18 months and 4-6 years. A person is given the vaccination also under the circumstance that they were exposed to it.
