Jackson Well Replacement Update
Jackson Families,
I would like to share an update with you regarding the emergency well replacement at Jackson Elementary School. At this time, the new well is fully-installed and water testing is being done to ensure the new well is ready for use. Unfortunately, this can be a lengthy process. This afternoon, the water system was taken offline to chlorinate, flush, and test. We’re hopeful there will be minimal issues with the new system, but we won’t be able to make the transition until all testing is complete. I will contact you within 24 hours of the new system coming online. In the event there are unexpected delays, I will provide another status update the Week of November 7th.
Thank you for your patience.
Respectfully,
Sam Marshall
Principal, Jackson Elementary School

Halloween at Jackson
This is the time of year that many families start looking for Halloween costumes for their children. Students will have an opportunity to wear costumes for part of the day on Monday, October 31.
As you head to the stores (or search on the Internet from the comfort of the couch), please keep the following guidelines in mind:
Halloween Costumes:
- The costume must not distract from the educational environment
- The costume must be school appropriate; no blood, gore, weapons/props, or costume make-up
- Students must be able to change into their costumes without adult assistance; students should not wear their costumes to school, as there is too much risk it will be damaged throughout the course of the regular school day
- Students must be able to use the bathroom without assistance while wearing the costume
Halloween Parade/Parties:
After lunches are over, students will be allowed time to change into their costumes for the Halloween parade. We will be giving the students the opportunity to show off their costumes to all the other kids in the school. Outside of the parade, festivities will vary by grade-level.
Each grade-level is in charge of how they would like their Halloween festivities to go. Each classroom teacher will determine if they need parent volunteers to help, how many volunteers that might be, and when the volunteers should be at the school. Each classroom will be turning in a list of their selected volunteers into the office; parents not on the list will not be allowed to visit the classrooms during the parade or parties.
Because party days can be chaotic, we are asking that all parents selected as volunteers make sure they have visited the building before October 31 to have their IDs scanned into the system. We also ask that parent volunteers leave all siblings not currently enrolled at Jackson Elementary at home when volunteering in the rooms. Siblings are welcome to visit on any day at lunches.
Parent-Teacher Conferences: November 8th
On Tuesday, November 8th, all students will have a scheduled eLearning day. This day will follow our traditional asynchronous schedule in which students do NOT meet live with their teachers. (Note: look further below in the update for the synchronous schedule for inclement weather eLearning days.)
On November 8th, we will be shifting teacher work times later into the day so that we can host parent-teacher conferences. If you are interested in meeting with your student's teacher, please select the appropriate link below to directly access their individual calendars. Our teachers all want to ensure they are properly prepared for conferences, so please schedule sooner rather than later, so that they have more time to prepare to meet with you.

Family Friendly Schools Survey for DSC Families
In keeping with our Core Values, Duneland School Corporation is committed to fostering partnerships to improve the quality of life in our community. One of our most important partnerships is with our families. As we strive to continue to build upon and strengthen our family partnerships, DSC is applying for renewal from the Indiana Department of Education as an IDOE “Family Friendly Schools” corporation. In doing so, we will continue to “focus on addressing students' academic, physical, emotional, and social needs while providing the needed resources and fostering the active involvement of their families through schools and the community.” (Indiana Department of Education Family Friendly Schools Handbook)
Please help us as we continue to support our students and community by completing the IDOE online survey by November 18, 2022.

Art to Remember
Hi Jackson Elementary families and friends,
Our school is participating in a creative fundraiser with Art to Remember that allows you to purchase keepsake products customized with your child's art. There are over 60 products and many are less than $15. These make great gifts and a percentage of every purchase goes right back to our school. Very soon, your child will be bringing home an order form that will feature their art and individualized order code.
Click on the link below and enter the online order code shown on your child's order form or to search for your child's artwork. Then, have fun shopping!
The deadline to submit orders is Tuesday, November 14th. Ordering by the deadline will allow you to receive your items in advance of Christmas break with FREE SHIPPING directly to the school.
Thank you for your continued support of the Art to Remember program!

This year, the Duneland Schools will share information that pertains to opportunities our students may be interested in outside of school on a special page on our website. These available opportunities are offered by not-for-profit partnerships and organizations within our school district boundaries and local communities. Follow this link to Community Opportunities.
