WE won iread!
Did you hear the news? Ravinia School is the 2020 iRead Champion! Congratulations to all the Ravinia Students!! This is a big win for us as we celebrate two years in a row. We would like to thank all the teachers and staff for supporting this program. Staff members donated their time and encouraged reading in the classroom. A big thank you to our generous PTO and parent volunteers who supported the program. Our students are strong readers with a determination to win. It was fabulous to see so many enthusiastic young readers wanting to read, read and read some more. We are all so proud of each and every one of you. Be proud of yourselves too. Job well done!!
Quick Facts:
- We set a new iRead record with an average of 1,495 minutes read per student! We logged an increase of 300 minutes per student over 2019.
- We will receive a $150 donation to the IMC for being the iRead winners!
- We will also receive an additional $150 donation to the IMC for having the highest donations per student.
- The overall school participation increased from 84% in 2019 to 90% this year!
- Ms. Wolin’s fourth grade class had the most minutes per student average in the school at a whopping 1927 minutes per reader.
Health and Wellness Updates
With the flu season in full swing, we would like to remind everyone that if your child has flu symptoms, they should not attend school. Symptoms to watch for include:
With the flu, fever is usually present, along with chills, headache, and moderate-to-severe body aches and tiredness.
Symptoms can come on rapidly, within three to six hours.
Coughs are dry and unproductive and sore throats are less common, but may be present.
If your child has recently been ill, please be aware of the following guidelines before having them return to school: they must be fever-free for at least 24 hours WITHOUT the aid of medication.
To help keep your children healthy, make sure they get plenty of rest and eat a good, nutritious diet, with plenty of fluids. Make sure they are dressed properly when playing outside.
The single most important thing you can do to keep your child free of illness is to teach the proper way to wash hands. Make sure to use soap and scrub hands for 20 seconds (2 verses of "Happy Birthday"). Rinse hands in running water and dry thoroughly.
Please notify the school if your child has been diagnosed with influenza.
