Principal's Message

Sabre families,

Welcome to the 2021 - 2022 school year!

We hope everyone enjoyed the beautiful weather this past weekend as we gear up for a return to classes.

First off, it was simply awesome to see our students at registration this past week. For those students who missed registration, ICON Photographers will return on the morning of September 2nd, and all locker information is located on your student's PowerSchool.

With the start of any school year, we know our students are going through a plethora of emotions, ranging from sheer excitement to feelings of anxiety, plus everything in between. It is our goal and intentionality at SAL to get our students settled and feeling a sense of belonging and connection to SAL.

Hence, on September 1, beginning at 8:15 a.m., all grade 10 students and any new students coming to SAL are invited to our morning orientation. Formal program begins at 8:30 a.m. in the Large Gym. Please see the attached schedule for details. This will allow us the opportunity to familiarize our new Sabres to the school, get a chance to meet our staff, and have some fun with a pretty cool morning orientation planned.

By all means, for those returning Grade 11 and 12 students who take the bus in the morning and have no other mode of transportation, please join the morning festivities.

At 11:10 a.m., all students are invited for a welcome back BBQ lunch before we begin the afternoon. Students will attend all of their classes in a shortened schedule. The schedule for the afternoon is included in the September 1 schedule below and is also available on our website at www.salcomp.ca.

As a review, this year, we are moving to early dismissal every Wednesday. As discussed at our School Council meeting this past spring and heavily supported by our stakeholders, including the students, staff, and parents, this change in schedule will allow for an increase in individualized support for our students, along with professional collaboration for our staff. We still have the same number of instructional hours as past years as we have simply shaved a few minutes off of our lunch hour. For those students who take the bus and need to wait a bit longer on Wednesday, the library plus other learning spaces will be open and supervised. Also, Wednesdays will provide the opportunity for students to complete exam rewrites should they choose and opt for after school.

Course Change Requests:

We have processed many requests over the past couple of weeks since timetables have been live. The deadline for requests is this Friday, September 3, please CLICK HERE to access. Your student will need to log into their Google Account using their eips.ca email and password to use this form.

Athletics and School Clubs:

To help in your back to school planning, volleyball tryouts will begin on September 1, 2021.

Girls from 2:45 - 4:45 p.m.

Boys from 4:45 - 6:45 p.m.

If you would like to get involved as a volunteer coach or help support the number of tournaments we hold at SAL during the course of the year, or should you have any questions, please contact our Athletic Director, Grant Melnyk, at grant.melnyk@eips.ca

For school clubs, please stay tuned for an entire list of opportunities for students to get involved after Labour Day weekend.

Please do not hesitate to contact me should you have any questions or concerns.
