Wonder:
to think or speculate curiously:
to be filled with admiration, amazement, or awe; marvel
to speculate curiously or be curious about; be curious to know
I often look back throughout the week and try to find the top highlights to discuss around the dinner table with my family. This past week we spoke about the plans for the upcoming summer and of the end of year celebrations approaching. As the kids rambled on, I found myself drifting into a sense of wonder. Each year seems to get a little quicker, every time hop picture that pops up seems to age me, and time with the little's seems to become more precious.
Every parent and teacher here at Alkek can find themselves beginning to wonder right around this time of year. We wonder what the next year holds, who will be their child's teacher next year, what changes are upcoming, when the test results will be in, what our child will hold with them throughout the summer, etc. The curiosity of what the future holds for each of us is what keeps us moving forward.
As a child I can remember writing journals of what I pictured my life to be as I grew up. Stick figure drawings filled my pages as I imagined us all driving UFO shaped vehicles and ordering food off of our T.V.s. Even back then my mind would wonder aimlessly into a future I thought for sure would be possible by now. I remember my essays back in High School being so vivid and full of fairy tales that my teachers would call my parents in to ask where this imagination of mine would come from. I remember my mom telling Mrs. Black, "she's a wonderer." Mrs. Black replied, "yes she is, she is wondrous!"
Those words have always stuck with me. I see no shame in the value of the word wonder. As a child, we need every aspect of wonder to fulfill us because this is what keeps us on a path of finding a goal. Our teachers here at Alkek get to experience wonder in a different light. They get to be filled with Wonder (awe and amazement) as they see their students reach aspirations they have been longing to fill. They get to teach kids to search for wonder and dream of the biggest dreams they never felt possible. Their wonder will get them through life and show them that even with setbacks, we still have something to wonder about!!
Our Alkek in Wonderland is coined of dreamers, thinkers, teachers, leaders, and believers. As we continue our journeys year after year, we all have something in common-we wonder! Don't let the little memories pass you by and don't ever allow someone to stomp on your wondering minds. Just as a year begins, it will quickly end... and we need our wondrous minds to get us to the next level!
"How did it get so late so soon? It’s night before it’s afternoon. December is here before it’s June. My goodness how the time has flewn. How did it get so late so soon?" ~ Dr. Seuss

Mrs. Halsey is the PEIMS Clerk here at Alkek Elementary!
She has worked for BISD for the past 3 1/2 Years!
A little about Mrs. Halsey:
She married her husband; Lance on June 16, 2003!
They have 3 girls:
Sara- 15

She is a Leo born on August 4th!
Fun fact- Being a Leo Born on August 4th, you are well known for inspiring, optimistic and humorous personality. You're naturally quite social and love any setting where you can make people laugh. You take the world on as your stage and thrive in an environment where you are the center of attention.
Her favorite hobby outside of school are her Farm, 4-H, Softball, and raising Cocker Spaniels!
Monica says she her favorite things to watch on T.V. include: Criminal Minds, Chicago PD, Blind spot, Manifest, Real Housewives, and Married at First Sight!
Mrs. Halsey and her family are huge animal lovers! They have 6 dogs, 7 cats, 4 mini donkeys, 2 mini horses, 1 horse, 15 rabbits, 19 goats, appx 60-70 chickens (I lost count), 3 turkeys, 3 gerbils, and a fish tank. We definitely need to field trip over to the Halsey farm!
Her favorite holiday is Christmas!

Treat others the way you want to be treated!
Monica says she is most proud of her kids!
We are grateful to have Mrs. Halsey with us here at Alkek!
