State Testing
Oregon's Statewide Assessments in science, mathematics, and English language arts will begin in April for students in grades 3-8. Scheduled testing will take place during the school day. For additional information on the State Assessments from the Oregon Department of Education, please review the following link.
While no single test can give a complete picture of your child’s progress, statewide tests provide information to students and families, as well as to educators and administrators about what educational approaches are working and where additional resources are needed. Your child’s participation is important to ensure schools and districts receive the targeted resources they need to help all students succeed. Districts are rated on their participation levels as well as student performance on this exam.
Oregon law (ORS 329.479) permits parents and adult students to annually opt-out of Oregon’s statewide summative tests in English Language Arts and Math by submitting a form to the school the student attends. If you decide to opt your child out of the math and/or ELA state assessments, please submit the following form to your child’s teacher or the front office by April 7, 2023 to best support our school with planning.

Character Trait of the Month
February's Character Trait is showing Community! Community is a place where kids come together and learn despite their different abilities and interests. Let’s teach our kids how to come together!
If you need Volunteer ideas in the community let PAC Volunteer coordinator Melissa Horton know @middletonpacboard@gmail.com Also, mark your calendars~ February 17th is National Random act of Kindness day!
Free Dental Screenings for Children Age Seven and Younger
We will have free dental screenings by local Dentist Dr. JJ Bittner and/or Dr. Kendra Flann at Middleton Elementary on February 24th, for children age seven or younger who have not been to a dentist. This is a screening only and no treatment will be given. You may already have turned in a form to your school to say that your child has been to a dentist, or that the screening is against your family’s beliefs -- if so, your child will not be screened. If your child is screened, results will be sent to you in backpack mail and also go into the student file. If you wish to opt-out of the screening, please contact your school office.
For more information about the screening call Health Services at 503-825-5088. Good dental care contributes to the overall good health of our students!
