The Rochester United Figure Skating Team Results
On March 26th, the Rochester United Figure Skating team skated to a 3rd place finish at the MI State Championships in Lansing. The competition was tough, but our LOHS skaters did a tremendous job in securing the 3rd place/Bronze Medal for the team. Congrats to Caitlin Balint and Josh Snyder.
Additionally, Rachel and Shauna Veits competed in the individual events on March 25th and skated to a 4th place finish in the Pre-Juvenile Duet event. Congrats!!!
Big Weekend for the Music Program
It was a very eventful weekend for the winter competitive programs for the LO Bands.
On Saturday, all three of the winter guards competed at the MCGC state championships at Saginaw Valley State University. The Junior Guard took 3rd in their class, the Junior Varsity Guard took 7th in their extremely large class, and the Varsity Guard took 10th in their class.
Lilian Jurj and Morgan Leney were both awarded scholarships from MCGC.
Sunday saw the MAPA state championships at EMU and the Winds took home the bronze medal in just their first year of competition. What was really outstanding about this placement was that their backing track (used primarily for timing purposes) cut out about 30 seconds into their performance and yet they managed to finish just over 1 point away from taking first place. Something else that is really cool (and bodes well for the future) is that there are zero seniors in this group, compared to the other groups which were primarily comprised of upperclassmen, meaning that our younger players hung in with groups filled with considerably more experienced marchers.
The percussion, only 2 weeks after being "bumped" up to a higher classification, easily won their first MAPA State Championship and their first championship in several years. Their score was over 3 points ahead of 2nd place.
Except for percussion, all of their seasons are over after this past weekend, but the percussion group are heading to WGI World Championships in Dayton later this month. They have a great chance to make finals even in this very challenging classification of Scholastic Open. Lake Orion Percussion were the 2015 World Champions, although this was in the classification that they were just bumped up from a few weeks back.

School Dismissal Manager
We have started utilizing School Dismissal Manager (SDM), a program for parents to communicate early student departures. LOHS successfully used the SDM program last year. It is accessible on either computer or smartphone, allowing parents the opportunity to officially submit an early dismissal request without calling the school.
On approximately September 22, you should have received a communication from School Dismissal Manager with additional details. Parents are encouraged to check their designated email accounts. Also, be advised the message might be redirected to your “junk” folders. The welcome email from SDM provides all relevant information necessary to activate and begin using your account.
Family Portal
Just a reminder that Sendmoneytoschool.com has been replaced by lakeorion.familyportal.cloud. Please visit the site to set up a lunch account for your student. There is a tutorial at the bottom of the Family Portal page that walks you through the process of setting up an account. Information on meal prices for the 2022-2023 school year are listed below:
High School Prices
