PRINCIPAL NEWS

It is hard to believe that we are already in March! It seems as though the school year just started and here we are preparing for the end of the 2nd trimester. Not to mention that we are getting ready to transition into the next phase of the pandemic. I am looking forward to what the spring brings to us! I hope you are, too.

March is Women's History Month! This link ~.Additional Resources: https://womenshistorymonth.gov/ ~ has some great resources for families who want to dig a little deeper. Here is another link that you and your family may find helpful ~ Voices to Celebrate Women's History Month.

March is also Irish American Heritage Month! During the month of March, we celebrate Irish American Heritage Month - to recognize the contribution Irish immigrants and their descendants have played in the formation of our Nation. TESTING - SBA Testing will start the week of April 25th and will run through early June. Please make sure your 3rd, 4th, and/or 5th grader is at school on time and well-rested on their assigned testing days. It will be very important to avoid any family trips or appointments during this time period. Please refer to the schedule that will be sent home with students regarding specific testing dates. We want all students to have an opportunity to show what they know and be able to do their best.

COVID - MASK UPDATE

While the governor has announced changes to the mask mandates at school, including no longer having to wear masks outdoors. The district is currently working with the Tacoma Pierce County Health Department for specific directives related to our mask policy. I will continue to push out updates as they come.

As we move forward in removing masks, I recognize that some families, students, and staff will want to continue to wear masks, for a variety of reasons. Our young learners are not all immunized, some have medically fragile family members, while still others may have their own health reasons. Let's be sure to teach that when we start to transition that KINDNESS is the rule and we will respect each other's choices, even if they are not the same as our choices.

CLASS PICTURE AND SPRING PORTRAITS

Quality School Portraits will be photographing all students for group class pictures on Tuesday, March 15. Again this year ~ all students will receive a class picture for free.

Spring portraits will also be available on a pre-paid basis. Picture packets are going home today. Any student who did not have a picture taken in the fall, will have the opportunity to be photographed so they will appear in the yearbook. If you would like to purchase Spring Portraits please send the photo order envelope to school with your child on or before March 15. You can also order online at www.qualityschoolportraits.com. Use code SPBROO. Please remember that neither the office nor the photographer can make change that day – the correct amount of cash must be sent, or checks made payable to Quality School Portraits. Any questions, please call the office at 253.298.3100.

IMPORTANT SCHOOL REMINDERS

STUDENT EARLY DISMISSAL – If your child has an appointment and is leaving before the end of the school day, please make sure you send a note that morning letting the teacher and the office know. If you call, we must receive it before 3:00 and students should be picked up no later than 3:30 due to our end of the day congestion. Also, please allow enough time for pick up. To preserve precious class time, we do not call students to the office until you have checked them out in person (remember your ID).

SCHEDULE CHANGES - The end of the day at Brookdale is very hectic. If you forgot to send a note in the morning (which is preferred) and need to call the school with a change to your child’s schedule, please do so before 3:00 p.m. After 3:00 the office is busy assisting students and parents and will not be able to answer your call or get a message to a student before they leave for the day. All end of the day schedule changes must be made through the office, not with the classroom teacher. Thank you!

UPDATE CONTACT INFORMATION - If any of your information has changed (address, contact info., email address, etc.) please contact the office right away. This year more than ever, it will be important to have the most current information. Also, let us know what your preferred method of contact is - phone, email, text. You can reach the office at 253.298.3100.
