Professional Development this Week: Final Reflection on SEL & Overview of Positive Discipline
1) Check in on our Trauma Informed Practices and how this influenced our relationship building with students this week- be ready to share!
2) Hear from our students in a fishbowl format about their experiences with RJ circles, Toolbox and PBIS
3) Reflect on our successes and best practices in creating classroom communities using RJ, Toolbox and PBIS
4) Discuss Progressive Discipline Practices
Special thanks to Mr. Alexander, Coach Cuny and the SEL Team- for their work in designing and informing this first cycle of the year.
Data Says- Differentiate!
Our data ALWAYS indicates that our students have a range of needs. If you are only teaching to the middle, you are meeting very few students needs.
Here's some good example of evidence of small groups in Math and Writing.

September Scientists!
In 4th Grade, the teachers are creating a "wheel". Mr. Litt will teach science, Ms. Smith will be doing special social emotional instruction, and Ms. Plambeck will teach social studies. All 4th graders will rotate through these contents so that ALL students will get all the 4th grade content and the teachers will have less planning!

International Walk and Roll to School!- THIS WEEK!
Grab your bikes, find a buddy to carpool with, or hop on the bus because Walk and Roll to School Day is right around the corner! Glenview has already been off to a great start with so many of our students safely and efficiently busing to and from school. We will celebrate this effort and show our students how cool it is to find safe, healthy routes to school. There will be the classic smoothie bike, and yummy coffee and bagels to enjoy.
Questions? Ask Ms. Cabral!
Safety Drills
We have one more drill this week- Lockdown!
This can be a very upsetting drill for all children, particularly children who have experienced violence or trauma.
Please discuss in advance and emphasize that we do these drills to practice and that the adults at Glenview will always do everything we can do protect and keep them safe.
Be mindful of how much information you give students. You can simply let them know that if we were ever in an unsafe situation the adults make ask us to lockdown the school. The best rule of thumb is to just answer questions as they arise, but not to create scenarios for children that they aren't asking about.
Reminder About Evacuations
You also need an emergency binder. Please put this near your emergency box and indicate this in your sub. folders.
Make sure your emergency binder is up to date. If you have new students, ask the office staff to re-print your class list with emergency info.
Required CPS Training
This is a state requirement.
Everyone should have received an email inviting them to take the training.

Thanks for the tip Ms. Michelle!
