The Clayville Chronicle
May 2020 Distance Learning Edition
From the Desk of Mrs. Francis
Thank you for your ongoing feedback about Distance Learning. Your feedback is used to improve our plans for the coming weeks. Please understand that while all feedback is considered, as a staff we are working on finding a balance and middle ground for much of the suggestions received. Each family is unique and has different needs that must be considered. We appreciate your partnership and realize our plan would not be a success without the support of our Clayville families. Special shout out to our students who continue to work hard from home!
However, we also recognize that our kindergarten and fifth grade celebrations are special for Clayville families and cannot be made up at a different time. With the help of our PTO, our teachers are planning special ways to recognize our kindergarten and fifth grade students. Information regarding these virtual events will be communicated in a timely manner. We appreciate your patience and understanding during this time.
I would also like to take the opportunity to give our teaching staff a much deserved shout out for their constant dedication to doing what's best for students. I look forward to celebrating our whole staff during Teacher Appreciation Week, May 4th through the 8th!
Lastly, please note that the RI Department of Education released state-wide May and June calendars (see below). These calendars include extra professional development days and vacation days, during which time students will not have school. Our last day of school is June 15th.
As always, please reach out with suggestions, questions, or concerns. Stay well!
Courtney Francis

PAWsitive Office Referrals: Now Digital!
We are excited that PAWsitive Office Referrals are now digital! Students who earn an office referral will receive a digital copy and special video from Mrs. Francis. We're proud of all students who have earned a digital office referral over the past two weeks and look forward to continuing this positive initiative throughout Distance Learning!
Feinstein Junior Scholars Good Deed Grant
During this challenging time many students have performed good deeds for family, friends and neighbors. Students are asked to report their best good deeds with their name, age and school name, to the Google Form below, as well as with the name and address of the non-profit agency of their choice. Every few days the Feinstein Grant will select one of these stories to feature on our Facebook page. If that Junior Scholar, or anyone who knows that Junior Scholar, claims the post within 48 hours, Feinstein will send that non-profit agency they mentioned $1,000 in their honor – plus a $500 grant to the school when they return and notify their principal about it!
Submissions are now being accepted here: Feinstein Grant Google Form

Notes from Nurse Gosselin
I wanted to share some information with everyone as we continue with our social precautions going forward. There have been many discussions around the use of masks and gloves within the healthcare community and there are some important things to consider. Please be aware that when removing gloves that could have come in contact with contaminated surfaces they should be removed inside out and one inside the other and disposed of in a garbage can immediately. There have sadly been gloves found in parking lots and other areas of our communities which are an environmental issue.
This is a link for the method used by healthcare professionals on the proper way to remove without cross contamination:

In addition I am including a link on WHO recommendations on mask wearing. It is important to remember that cloth masks should be washed with hot water. If you have a mask that suggests using anything other than hot water for the material, you can consider ironing it to heat the surface and disinfect. Disposable masks can be reused but remember that all masks should be kept in a paper or plastic bag and removed only for wearing. They should not be left out in the open to spread any germs that may be present.

This information is meant to serve as helpful information for anyone that has questions regarding these practices. We know that many are already practicing these strategies but want to ensure that everyone has the best information possible. Please remember that I am here to assist with any questions or concerns.
