What's happening at HGECC?
The End of 2020-21 is Just Around the Corner
Dear HGECC families,
Welcome to the first week of May! Can you believe it? The weather outside is beautiful, the flowers are blooming, and the trees are greener each day. More than anything is the fact that we are one month from the last day of school; this year flew by.
There are a lot of things happening around HGECC this month! We have our final early childhood screening event, student field day, staff appreciation week, cover-to-cover and our end-of-the-year movie celebrating our students. While this year these events will be either virtual or just for the children it is our hope that next year you will all be able to join us for these fun events!
As I look at our students walking in the building, playing in their rooms, helping friends out, and writing their names, I am reminded of how far they all have come since the beginning of the year. They come in so little in August and then grow up so much over the course of the school year. It is hard to believe how much so many of our little bulldogs have also sprouted! hope that you have been able to see the growth in your child throughout this school year too.
They are busy practicing their songs for the end of the year programs, so I am sure you are hearing some of those songs at home. Be sure to ask them about what they are learning, and what they did at school each day. They are very excited to share all that they have learned!
Are you curious about what your little person does all day while they are here? Check out your child's classroom website for pictures, resources, and updates on what is happening! We are always adding new information to our building page and teacher pages. Go to https://hgecc.grandviewc4.net, click on "about us", then go to "teachers and staff". Find your teacher's name and click on their website.
Remember-if you ever have any questions or ideas you would like to share with me, please give me a call!
Let's make these last few weeks of school the best!

Conscious Discipline Focus at Home:
Safe Place Breathing Icons
The first step in any discipline encounter is to take a deep, calming breath. Three deep breaths shut off the fight or flight response in the body. Try one of the following breathing strategies with your child when they are experiencing "big" feelings.
Pretzel
Standing up, cross your ankles. Now cross your right wrist over left, turn your hands so your thumbs are facing the floor, put palms together and interlace fingers. Bend your elbows out and gently turn your hands down and toward your body until they rest on the center of your chest. Put your tongue on the roof of your mouth. Relax and breathe.
Balloon
Place your hands on top of your head and interlace your fingers. Breathe in through your nose as you raise your arms, inflating an imaginary balloon. Release the air in the balloon by pursing your lips, exhaling slowly, lowering your arms and making a “pbpbpbpbpb” sound.
Drain
Extend arms out, pretending your arms are faucets. Tighten arm, shoulder, and face muscles. Exhale slowly making a “sssshhh” sound and release all your muscles, draining out the stress.
Car and bus rider procedures at a glance
A. Please use the loop in the back of the building.
B. Have your blue card in the passenger side window when you pull up to a cone.
C. When you pull up, staff will come to your car to receive or deliver your child to you.
D. Please do not pull around other cars in the drop off/pick up line. This is for the safety of our students and your children.
Bus Riders:
A. Make sure you have your yellow bus card to receive your child from the bus.
B. Walk your child to the door of the bus when loading, and receive your child at the door of the bus at drop off.
