National Tenner Challenge Awards Day!
Team Festive Homes of DKA (Aisha Sharif, Ra'Is Aslam, Safina Ali, Aneeqah Hussain, Taybah Khan & Kajal Parekh) picked up their award at the Mishcon De Reya offices who hosted this years Tenner Challenge Awards ceremony.
Having beaten over 3,000 teams and 21,000 individual participants, Festive Homes collected the award in the 11-14 category for LEAP Potential Award sponsored by the highly acclaimed London law firm Mischon De Reya.
The students started early on the morning of the big day, travelling like true champions in first class to London and upon arrival spent time exploring Madam Tussaud's taking plenty of selfies with celebrities & world leaders! Following the awards ceremony, the students enjoyed an early dinner before a spot of well deserved retail therapy on Oxford Street.
Thank you to everyone who helped in the students' success and achievement as well as everyone who purchased one of the limited edition DKA cookbooks!
All money raised, which currently is just short of £800, is being donated by the students to Martin House Hospice.

World Explorers with Mr. Winston Plowes
“Word Explorers” was a 5 week project with performance poet Winston Plowes who specialises in “Found” poetry. Winston used a variety of techniques to get the students creating their own pieces of verse. Mr Winston showed us how poems can be created from the words found in newspapers, dictionaries, on fizzy sweets and in songs. Students were also able to use a selection of vintage typewriters to create work.
At break times, all students were invited to write their fantasy destinations and ideas on to Winston’s “Magic Canoe.” From this activity Winston has created a piece of found poetry which he performed at the celebration event on the 29th April in the Library (poem attached.)
This has been a major project and the library has been a great venue for all of the activities. We estimate that around 300 students took part and contributed in some way. At the celebration day we gathered feedback from all the pupils and we hope to invite Mr Winston back again next year to carry on developing the Word Explorers project.
