Brief Introduction
Card Matching Game
How to play?
Students play this game in pairs and each pair has a set of cards with Chinese phrases and their English meanings. Shovel all the cards and face them to the other side. Then students take turns to flip over two cards at a time. If the Chinese and English on the cards are matched, the student who flips them over can take them. Otherwise, s/he needs to flip them over again. At the end, the two students count how many cards they have got, the student who gets more cards wins.
When to play?
At the beginning stage of learning new vocabularies.
Slapping Game
How to play?
Students play this game in groups of four or five. The vocabularies need to be in order, such as numbers, time, month,days of week. Students turn over the cards and they cannot see what they have in hand when they play this game. They take turns to flip over the cards and put them on the table. At the same time, they also need to say a phrase. For example, if student A says January, then student B says February and student C says March. When the phrase the student says matches the phrase they put on the table, everyone in the group slaps on the cards. The last person who slaps on it will get all the cards. The first person who gets rid of all the cards wins.
When to play?
This game is good for reviewing vocabularies and it helps students think faster.
Calling Out Competition
How to play?
The class will be divided into 2 big groups, and each group will be given a set of cards with phrases in Chinese characters. The two sets of cards are exactly the same except for their color. One group will have a set of green cards while the other group will have a set of orange cards. Each student will have about 3-4 cards, depending on the class size and number of target phrases.
Teacher will choose an English phrase from the white cards and say it aloud. Student who has that card in Chinese needs to stand up and say the word immediately. The team with a faster student will get one point.
When to play?
This is an exciting activity for students to review their vocabulary.
